Moon was too tired to move on... She flopped onto the ground and fell asleep in an instant.

West shook his head, his worry turning into panic. He took a calming breath and cantered a little further, bellowing again, "Moon!?" He glanced around, not hearing a sound. West detected the faintest scent trail... but there was a slight breeze. It was fading away. He galloped as well as he could, following it as quickly as he could. West kept stumbling, pain shooting and stabbing through his front leg... the one that had been broken. Once the scent got a little stronger he trumpeted at the top of his lungs. "MOONWATCHER..!" The loud sound echoed off canyons miles away, bouncing across the plains

On her run, Moon had heard a sound, almost like a horse. But Moon was driven by anger and the wind in her ears was so strong that she had ignored it, thinking it was a bird or a lion.

West picked up another scent. His heart raced and he almost felt like he was going to die from fear. Wolves. They were stalking Moon... he could smell her... and them. West ran faster, trying to ignore the pain in his leg. He needed to get to Moonwatcher in time...

Phantom stood anxiously for a few minutes hoping that West had gotten to her in time before she got too far. After what felt like almost an hour (in reality is was about 30 minutes) of waiting she couldn't stand there anymore. Phantom tested out her back leg at a trot the pain was okay just dragging it a little bit made it better, then a canter now the pain was sharp it felt like daggers in her leg but she ignored it. She took off cantering out of the valley then picked up into a gallop now she was crying from the pain but she continued to try and ignore it, she followed the heavy hoove steps in the ground trying to go as fast as she could (45mph). Phantom got close enough to hear West yells echo into the canyons, she continued on finally reaching him. Her face was damp from tears, her voice was a bit shakey when asking "Do you have her scent?" Phantom sniffed the air, she could smell Moon faintly but anotherscent overpowered it. Her face filled with horror as she pushed herself to try and gallop faster Edited at April 21, 2023 12:19 PM by The Ghost Barn

West saw Phantom. "PHANTOM DONT YOU DARE-" He ran harder, pulling ahead of her and stopping, blocking her off. "You are an injured horse I don't care how fast you are or how much you want to help, I can't lose you too!" West sounded terrified, devasted... he was scared. He gave one more glance, hoping she listened... and galloped off. He felt agony started to rip through both his heart and his leg. But West ran faster still. Faster than he ever had before. The pain was excruciating... but West was running as fast as he used to... back in his old herd... when he was young... he was flying across the plains at top speed, the wind ripping through his mane. He had seen Moon over the next hill... and the wolves were starting to circle her.

Phantom skidded to a stop, she listened to what West said. He sounded scared and devastated "West please one horse is no match for a pack of wolves..." She looked at him her eyes were filled with tears that were still pouring down her face. She watched West gallop off fast like a bullet, Probably from all the adrenaline... She gave a snort flicking her tail starting to walk back. She started thinking about West, Moon, and the wolves. Even if West could take on the Wolves there would still at least be one to run after Moon. Phantom looked back, she sighed before taking off in Wests direction, she got up on West deciding it'd be best to stay back until he needed help. Even if she was injured at least she could probably herd some wolves away if needed. Phantom went off into some brush staying down wind from West and the wolves to wait

West slowed his pace slightly. He didn't want to break his leg again. He cantered up to the wolves... then acted like he was injured. West tripped and let out a pained cry, limping heavily. All the wolves looked back, snarling. West was a lot more meat... and it looked like he couldn't run. The wolves started stalking towards him, licking their lips. One of them charged, barreling towards him and snapping its razor sharp teeth onto his shoulder. West let out a fearsome bellow and reared, bringing his heavy hooves down upon the wolf and crushing it. He then went into action, bodyslamming one wolf into the ground and kicking another in the rib cage. Two of the wolves were already dead... and the other two were seriously injured. West ended their misery, panting. He flicked his ears and looked up, making sure Moon was okay.

Phantom watched quietly as West went up to the wolves and fell, she was a bit confused but trusted what West was about to do. She winced as one of the wolves sank it's teeth into him. Phantom continued watching, her worry turned into amazment as West took down all four wolves. She matched Wests gaze looking at Moon, the little filly looked terrified but also thankful for West. Phantom sighed walking out the brush back the way she came, she took off galloping stumbling a lot almost tripping. She had to get back home before West so that he didn't know she stuck around.
