Gwenwyn sounds like my aunt Gwendolyn and the double meaning can be a good talking point. like poisoned chalice from the bible?? not sure if that is the right book I think I have taken it from though it does remind me of Indiana Jones.

Folyfoot - Gwendolyn is a nic name, we have quite a lot of 'Gwen's' here, not as popular as it once was though. I haven't got around to reading your latest blogs, I'm saving them until later when I can sit down with a coffee and have a read! :)

Tredon - I'm going to move Chaddlefield up a bit from where it was originally if that's ok so that I can make space for the farm next door to Tredon that you wrote about, the one who contracted out the workers and machinery to cut and bring in your hay. I think it could be useful to have it on the map as then we can all use them for our harvesting if we need to. I can't remember, did that farm have a name? If not we could use something like Tregwair (gwair - hay), Tregwellt (gwellt - straw) or Trecynhaeaf (cynhaeaf - harvest).

Here are some of Tredon's translations plus some others which migh come in handy:

neighing- gweryrad
neigh - gweryru
bray - nadu
grove - gelli
hay - gwair
straw - gwellt
harvest - cynhaeaf
town - tref ('tre' is often used at the start of farm names to mean homestead)
flowing - llifeiriog
flow / stream / current - llif
calm - llonydd (still) / tawel (quiet)
silent - tawel
blue - glas / las
Quay - cei
valley - cwm
stream - nant / ffrwd (stream or brook)
spring - ffynnon
waterfall - rhaeadr
river - afon
estuary - aber

I kind of like Folyfoot's idea of a horsey sounding word for the main river or valley, something like 'Llif Gweryrad' or 'Cwm Gweryrad' could work. I don't mind though, I'll go with whatever you both like.

I've got a little more work to do on the map and then I'll post a pic and we can alter it where need be and add the last few names after.

Yes I like that idea too!! The how do you pronunce llif gweryrad and Cwm gweryrad?
Also, sorry to put you to work, but what are words like crashing, rushing in welsh? Just thinking for the crashing/rushing winnie idea. Or any other words you think might fit. I've gone blank for the minute!!

Sorry Tredon, I edited my post above while you were writing a repply lol.

rushing - rhuthro
crashing is difficult, it mostly translates as the accident type of crashing the best I think would be
crashing / impact - gwrthdrawiad

Ok!! well I like Rhuthro Whinnie but don't know if that sounds right. Or whether we stick to Crashing Whinnie. I actually quite like that. As the characters in the story can say like 'down by the crashing whinnie'.

I like 'Crashing Whinnie'. That's for the river to the right of Tredon isn't it?

I'm not very good at describing Welsh pronunciation, but I'll try. Perhaps it might be better to search Google for a suitable website. lol
The double 'L' is difficult, here's what Google says:
Ll - no English equivalent. Made by putting tip of tongue on roof of mouth and blowing.

So Llif is 'Ll-eave'.
Gweryad - 'Goo-where-e-ad'
Cwm - 'Cooom' said quickly so the 'O's become more 'W' is pretty close.

Well thanks for trying!! It doesn't have to be exact!! I think I'll go with Crashing Whinnie. I've forgotten where it is on the map, but the closed one to Tredon if that's ok!!

I also like the Welsh words which sound much nicer for crashing whinny than english
ffynnon tawel i think sounds/flows better although it makes the english words back to front.
as for the main river i like flowing neigh which could come from a valley in the land of the echoing waterfall or is that too long / pretentious or other?

just noticed the HEE weather - windy with flurries
what do you think to naming a group of hills the windy flurries?
the weather outside my bedroom window is depicting exactly that. windy/flurrying scurrying clouds
