If you add beneficial bacteria which you can get at pet stores it can make it faster :)

With cycling though you have to take into account a brand new fresh tank can run forever but unless something is put into the system, it will never be cycled because the beneficial bacteria doesn't have anything to feed on

@Zz, just a month is nothing. I can do that. My research says 10-12 weeks which is like 3 months!

Well if you are wanting just one, a betta is the way to go. They are super friendly and personable and very easy to care for

I second the research. Specifically research the nitrogen cycle. Running it for A week isn’t enough usually. Mine took a month

I think I am just scared of having multiple fish vs just one.

I would just say overall ALWAYS do your research! Every fish needs something different such as tank size, food. etc. Also some fish don't get along with others. :) Plus what works for one person might not work for another.

Corys are cute but they theyre bottom dwelling, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have something else to hang in the middle

No they are small. You can even get pygmy ones which are really tiny

@Angels, don't they need bigger tanks though?
Insignia Elites

@bird yes! they scavenge the substrate for food! But watching them breed is really inserting! Mine do every so often but the eggs always get eaten. They are considered a bottom dweller :)

Yesss I love corys. I always add them to my tank because they eat leftover food that sinks to the bottom and help reduce ammonia spikes

Ok so this is a genuine question for any parents on HEE - My mom said dinner's ready and I said what are we having. She said chicken, shrimp, and salad. I said what kind of salad and she started freaking out and telling me I'm rude and not supportive. Now here's the question - Is there a reason for this?

Corydoras sound fun too, but evidently they only stay at the bottom of the tank?

I want to get duckweed or something similar cause it’s super prolific but the two goldfish I have in there at the moment would eat it all XD they’ll probably be moving on to a friends pond soon though

Ok so I am actually about to explode from anger over this and I need to vent. I am a teen so that will make the age gap make more sense. My neighbor, E is 8 and she is insane. She goes in our backyard when we aren't home and plays with our chickens. She throws them around and feeds them random things that can be poisonous. Whenever I tell her to stop she throws a fit and storms home and way over blows things to her mom. The only reason I know this is because her older brother who is a decent human being tells me. We have a sea shell collection and she will smash it because it is "fun" and then she will steal our shells. My mom wont let me put a lock on our gate or call the police when she goes in without permission and refuses to leave.
Edit: forgot to add this but they are moving at the end of the School year and they are leaving there dog behind (which she treats like crap by the way) and we where thinking about adopting him. Our last dog died when I was in first grade. Now she went and told her mom a bunch of lies and said I told her I would just put him in a cage if I got him. We don't even own a cage but her mom always believes her so my only chance to get a dog is shot.

Have you gone and talked to E's parents yet?If not then I'd advise doing that and if they try to say 'oh,she's only 8' then you simply tell them, and I mean TELL them about her tossing and feeding your chickens random things and about the seashell fiasco. If you do talk to them and they don't do anything, then get a lock.See what happens then.

You know. You CAN talk to authorities yourself, who can then speak to the parent and demand they pay more attention to their child. Your age does not matter. They WILL come out. Not only is she doing property damage, but she is endangering the lives of animals. It is better that it is dealt with now, rather than when actual fines come up and her family can't deal with them.

Ok so like RFS said I have talked to her parents multiple times and they just say yeah well I'll talk to her but she's 8. What can I do.
Well not let her go to nieghbors houses and go in there backyard for one.
for versa, I wish and I have begged my mom but I don't have a phone and she always says she's only 8 let it go. My family doesn't like chickens like I do so they don't get it. But if a chance comes to press charges against her oh I will take them down.

What if you buy the lock yourself? Or honestly, if I saw her doing those things I would run out and threaten her and tell her if she comes back into the yard you will call the police. Heck, even just scream at her to, "Get out of my yard now!"

Yelling and drawing attention is great. Also taking videos as proof for her parents, and in the possible future; the police, as proof :)

It does not matter if they do not like chickens as much as you do. This child wandering into your yard and causing damage is neglectful towards the child's welfare and her parents could have charges pressed simply on that if anybody finds out. If a chicken dies to something poisonous, it's neglectful on both sides. We're talking money, not a slight shrug and "well they're just chickens." You guys own these animals, and therefore it is YOUR responsibility to pay attention to their needs and make the right decisions. Furthermore, if the child gets hurt on your property, her parents sound like the type to sue YOU instead of realizing their own faults. If nothing else, these parents need authorities called for lack of attention paid to their kid. Get evidence. Get a lock.

Get a lock. If your parents argue over it with you, say you spent your money to protect your livestock and property. Get security cameras if you can to keep an eye on your chickens. Get no tresspassing signs and put them on your fences as well. Let the girl's parents know that you are offically telling them if their daughter comes on to your property again (once you have the no tresspass sign up since they will now know you mean business) that you will call the police to talk to her for tresspass. If it happens again you'll have her charged with tresspass (age doesn't matter for tresspass charges.). And if you have video evidence of her abusing your chickens throw on animal abuse to the list of charges as well.

Also as Revel says if you catch her in your yard scream bloody murder at her to draw attention to her until you get the no tresspass signs up. I don't recommend hitting the kid unless you see her actually abusing the chicken on your property, since her parents could charge you with battery, but screaming and doing a bluff charge at her might scare her enough to let her know you mean business about protecting what's yours.
