I tried to pick up a garter snake once, but it was too fast so it got away. Bull snakes are kind of big here and I could totally imagine being bit if you picked one up. Even if they aren't venomous it would hurt.

Well, working at a zoo, it's something I had to learn eventually. It's inevitable. We just don't practice on actual venomous ones... Just super spicy non-venomous noodles. Lol

Training helps, for sure.

I don't think anyone picks up snakes here unless they are "Snake Catchers".

It was in my first year at college. :) I found the snake and the professor about cried. I brought it to him and the rehabber saved the snake's life.

Good to note that bullsnakes are non-venomous. I'd never do that for something like a rattlesnake without a tube and a snake hook. Which I am also trained for at this point lol

I'd probably be pretty chill too if i was ran over..

Thats great news!

I am not afraid of them, but i am definitely wary.

I could not fathom picking a snake up in the wild, never.

Good job saving it Versa! They all play their roll.

Like, pick it up off the street to take to him. I was the only one who would. He was SUPER chill.

He has since recovered and been re-released.

Snakes don't scare me really at all... But I know everything to look for and the venomous snakes within my area, *easily* I can identify them and keep myself safe. Though I have picked up a wild bullsnake at my previous state. Professor took it to rehab after being run over by a car and nobody else wanted to pick it up... So I did lol.

Spiders too, but to a lesser degree.

As an Aussie. It is absolutely DRUMMED into us from a very young age to stay away from snakes. almost all ours are venomous and the non-venomous ones look the same as the venomous ones...so our fear is heightened.

Things like this get passed down through generations. I heard somewhere that prehistoric spiders were HUGE. Like, take the biggest spider today and double it. It's probably genetic, like the snakes.

I'd say it's similar to the fear of snakes, or maybe even lupophobia (phobia of wolves). Historically, humans had to be scared of snakes due to the venom. Snakes today are very different. The fear of wolves has been one budding more recently, due to all of our nursery stories detailing them eating farm animals. Which is actually very rarely occurring. :)

My issue with spiders is they always run toward me.

I had a large wolf spider living with me in my old apartment. His name was Travis and he liked to hide behind my desk.

See, I won't put my hand ANYWHERE near spiders because I just... Don't trust them, lol. But I've held a praying mantis with my bare hands so my professor could save it... Spider fear is irrational but very relevant in humans.

Hello fellow Equstrians!

My horse and I have been working towards our goal for the end of 2024 at a steady rate. This goal being to jump a course without a bridle.

For the past several months I've been using my reins around his neck but I think that I'm ready to move on to using a neck rope. I was wondering if anyone has some brands that they know of that they'd recommend. Price isn't a problem for me.

.

Thank you everyone for their input!

I ride in a normal rope with my boy that I tied in a loop and works amazing, but I know brendan wise also sells some stiffer wrapped leather neck ropes on his website called "unbridled wings".

My friend got me a Paracord Neck Rope several years ago as a surprise gift.
I had been braiding colored Baling Twine together to make one (worked well).
