The last resort (that usually works for me) would be to download the image, upload it to a hosting site, then copy the link and paste it into the "insert image" section.

I think Sketti knows that he can't easily jump up on my PC chair, so he just goes underneath the closest bundle of warmth he can. Which usually ends up being his blankets

When it was only E's, I would keep EPP mares around to throw EEE studs at their freshman year. May do that xd

Oh nooo! Poor baby <3 Extra cuddles for kitty tonight.

Sketti doesn't like thunder, either. But he hides under his blanket pile in the corner.

Hyoid bone adjustment? October 6, 2023 03:07 PM

Ive had someone offer to give my pony a hyoid bone adjustment and I'm not so sure about that... he doesn't have any pain or anything and he goes really nicely while riding. I've also never heard of it before and can't find any proper studies on what adjusting it is gonna do. Anyone have opinions or experience with this?

Hey! Certified equine body worker here! Please don't let them do this! I've been a practicing equine body worker for a few years now and I've also been to a fair few equine dissections. The hyoid bone is extremely delicate, thin and easy to break. Doing manual adjustments of the hyoid bone can cause injury. I would 110% never let anyone do one on my horses, especially if there are no issues :)
the hyoid bone is so delicate that during the dissections it's is very hard to get out of the horse without breaking it.
Something as simple as pulling the tongue (which is something a lot of people do to 'release the hyoid,' but why would someone want to release a bone? Bones are meant to be not released at!) Anyway, something like tongue pulling can snap it and then your horse will be in pain and definitely not going well under saddle.

If they think your horse has a restriction in that area, there are other therapies that can help to release tension or restrictions in the tongue and throat area that dont require manual effort, these types of therapies are light touch like Bowen Therapy, Craniosacral therapy, Masterson Method. These I would be comfortable with a trained and experienced practitioner working on my horse to release tension in that area, but even with these methods, messing with the area that the hyoid bone sits in can affect a horses balance :)

Ok that's what I was worried about, thank you so much.

No worries! Edited my post to say more about this! I'm very passionate about the hyoid bone and helping people understand just how delicate it is since soooo many people think tongue pulls are a good thing to do to your horse! 😂😊
