Ooh definitely food for thought then North, thank you! Im not hand showing at the minute as ive just got SD geldings in the BM but it would be nice to actually make use of the other 700 odd horses ive got sitting around haha

I agree, I don't have time for all of that tracking training etc. It is dead simple, I rarely bring in horses, I breed my own. I train in AD until they are 6 and then in SD. Check that the riders are of the right level and show 3 times a week, simples.

i did a similar program on my side account that i used solely for showing and also always made super good profits
to start i bought horses only levels 3+ in training because they made more profit quicker, but once you have some money in the bank you can breed your own
I feel like people complicate showing too much

7 Day Profit: 307,741 (with fewer than 200 horses)
I am a free stable which makes a big difference as there is more competition among premium stables.

Do you really North?! I've not heard of many people doing that- do you mind me asking how much profit you make that way? I only do it for my futurity foals but it would be an interesting plan to try with all stock

I show my horses 3 times a week from birth, regardless of training, I make a good profit and I am always near the top of the LB

@Rocky- they're ready to show when they have 2 bars of training for every level in each of the three stats for the chosen discipline. So a 1yo would be ready around week 4 or 5 depending on their training. Dressage uses MVT, INT & STR; XC uses HRT, SPD & STR and SJ uses HRT, SCP & SPD

Hi everyone!
I just started and am loving the artwork and realistic competitions. But I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the info - does anyone have beginner tips? Some things that would be good to know for me:
  • Should I be focusing on one breed vs. several? I'm still deciding on which discipline to focus on.
  • Is wild-catching horses a money-sink?
  • How much money (should I have) spent on beginner horses?
Thanks in advance <3

  1. If you decide to do SD (single discipline), focusing on several breeds is going to be MUCH easier. If you work on AD (all disciplines), then it's best spent on one breed - and quality over quantity when you're trying to get off the ground!
  2. Yes! Huge money sink, not worth it when you're trying to save.
  3. This depends on what you're looking to do. :)

Super helpful, thank you! Some follow-ups: is SD easier than AD? I feel like focusing on one first and then growing from there sounds easier, or maybe not?
I purchased about 10 horses and wild-caught the rest, so I have a mix of ratings and levels. Should I just release the wild horses? I've spent nearly all of my starter money doing this unfortunately, so I'm feeling like I messed up in a big way.
ty for your help <3

SD is easier than AD, yes. It's easier to match mares and stallions' strengths and weaknesses together since you're only focusing on three. Additionally, it tends to be less spendy per LC from the stud. Since you're only focusing on one rating rather than three, too.
.
Oops!
No, not in a big way, just need to earn your money back now. :)
If you're wanting to focus on ratings then yes, I'd say release anybody who doesn't have a W or below an EEP combo until we figure out which direction you're wishing to go!

Gotcha, released!
Does the EEP/W combo apply for geldings? I'm going to take a look through sales and see what geldings I can get to replace my show team. How many horses would you suggest to being with for showing? Should I just save for a while before attempting breeding?

Nope! :) Geldings can go as low as S if you'd really like. I use P and E personally, and specifically SD.
.
I see you're premium, too! I attach geldings to my barn manager, and have her show them only when competitive. She does best with SD boys.

If you are looking to get some geldings I almost always have more than enough geldings so I'm sure I could spare a few :)

That would be so nice! I've taken a peek at the market and still need some.
