I have that same dress in dark red and loooveeee it. So so comfy.

Also, I think black is perfectly acceptable! It used to be somewhat taboo (black means you disapprove, red means you slept with the groom, etc, but at that point every color is taboo if you look too deeply into it) but I've been to a lot of weddings recently and it's definitely becoming more common to wear.
