I have finally gotten the hang of body prep and color changes but not manes and tails lol. Any tips for painting realistic manes and tails? I fully repaint mine and use Ibis Paint X.

Honestly, I LOVE your hair techniques. Your hair is unique, flowy, and add personality to your pieces. I wouldn't change anything about it.

I love how you do your hair! It looks so amazing. I think the one thing, especially in your last example, that may be bugging you is that the style of the hair doesn't work with the style of the horse stock. To fix this I recommend either, yes, changing the style of your hair, OR alternatively changing how you do body prep (for example more smudging & smoothing)
Here's a piece I did when I was still doing manips, you can kind of see how the hair matches the horse because of the smudging

Here is an older version of how I do my manes.. I still do it roughly the same :) you'll find a bunch of other stuff in here too, ignore those LOL
i do like the manes you do, what sticks out to me is the forelock and tail, they aren't as flowy as the mane (on your recent commissioned piece)
I used to struggle so much with movement, hell I still do! But what I used to do when I first started redrawing manes and tails, was keeping the horses natural tail (about half) duplicate it, erase it from the horse layer, then on a separate layer I begin drawing over the tail, following the direction the original tail went in. Then after a few strokes of the brush I'd delete the original tail layer and begin making it longer/making whispy bits.
I don't know if that made sense LOL but it helped me out a lot doing this

I started improving my hair using Zomb's technique, but I actually have a special brush that makes doing hair much easier if you want me to send it to you.
I'd also love the see how you repaint your horses, as that I where I struggle. I also use Ibispaintx XD
