So I had a semi bad fall recently and ended up with a couple broken bones and stuff but also a concussion. Took about two months to heal. I was wearing a helmet, but the ER people who saw me said it would be a very different story if I wasn't. Anyways I've thrown away that helmet (thank you for keeping me safe) because it was broken after the fall. I have another helmet that fits fine, but I'm thinking maybe a better quality helmet would be a good investment? I dont know what the brand is for the one I have right now, I got it as a gift.
What are your favorite helmet brands? And what are your opinions on cowboy hat helmets? I want to get one so we are stylish but also safe lol.

You can look up a list of ASTM rated helmets with the MIPS feature, which will be safest.
Personally I love my OneK helmet, but I'm hesitant to recommend any one specific brand, since everybody's head is shaped differently and what works for me may not necessarily work for you. Your best bet will be to go to a tack shop and try on helmets. You want it to sit over your eyebrows, be snug enough that it doesn't move when you shake your head or hit the underside of it with your hand, but won't give you a headache either. They should also be replaced every five years or every fall, whichever happens first.
I'm sorry you fell, but glad you're okay! Helmets literally are lifesavers.

As Puck said, every head and helmet is different, but my personal go to is IRH (International Riding Helmets), specifically the ones with the thinner straps, not the puffy ones around the ears/back of the head since it gives me a headache, I've had no problems with the thinner straps though. I've also heard great things about Tipperary helmets as well.

I've had great experiences with One K and Samshield, I currently ride in a Miss Shield and love it! If you're in the states, it's also significantly cheaper to order Samshields from Europe. I will say a benefit of the One K is that if you had a hard fall, I was able to send my old one back to them because they use it for crash testing examination and then got a new one for $50.

my first and only higher-end helmet is a OneK and I love it, very comfortable, and even if you don't get any of the fancier ones the basic one is still pretty stylish, and they're a lot cheaper than a Samshield, Kask, GPA or any of those other brands. Of course, get a brand that fits the shape of your head as that's crucial for your safety. Mine doesn't have MIPS, but I've heard that's good to have as well.

I'd also look into Tipperary. I used one of their lower-end helmets for years and it was quite nice, but they have nicer-looking, more show-ring-appropriate ones now!

Thanks so much everyone! Im going to be going to a couple different tack stores to get new reins (broke in the fall) and I'll try on helmets then too :)
Also looking online to see which are ASTM certified and then see if theres any of those in the tack store to try on

Don't know if you are still looking or if these brands are available to you
But Charles Owen and Champion helmets (separate brands) are the top ones to buy around here

hey lucky :)
sorry to hear about your fall, hope your ok!
I've been using a John Whitaker VX2 sparkle helmet for just over a year, and I love it! really comfy and also protects you a little bit from the sun, plus it has the sparklies for us sparkly riders :D and on top of that its pretty affordable at 120 pounds, but I spotted it for 80 on amazon just now!

I love my uvex! A bit pricy but light and comfortable, and has saved me a few times over the last year or so. I also have a John Whitaker, which I pretty but I don't feel safe in it which is important lol
