Bird, I loved my tetras, I believe I had the 2 for 4/5 years? But do be weary when you get them, I originally had 4 but unfortunately we lost 2 very shortly after due to the 'professionals' we talked with I'll informing us on the best amount for our tank!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:15:34 Bird
@charm, I was hoping to keep it less than $500
Versailles
10:15:19 Versa
Should always try our best with animals. Research is worth it
Backwood Barns
10:14:43 Charm's Wubs
Like with anything it takes a lot of research (and it's a bit of an investment) to do things right.
Versailles
10:14:17 Versa
Bettas are definitely able to get away with a 10. I just wouldn't go lower, they explore and swim around way more than people realize
Wings Of Glory
10:14:08 O Great Potato Wing
After 3 months of work and almost 20k down the drain my truck will finally be repaired and drivable tomorrow >_< proud of myself for not giving up

Bird, Unfortunately I never got to try a planted tank, but I've heard amazing things! I do really wish I'd had time to lol
Hummingbird Meadows
10:13:39 Bird
For preferably a smaller tank. Less than 20 gallons.
Hummingbird Meadows
10:13:23 Bird
Other than betta fish, what are some good beginner fish?
Dash and Duchess
10:12:09 DD | ~Squizard~
Exactly what charm said! It really makes things easier, and the fish love it too!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:11:48 Bird
@DD, so you have had good luck with plants?
Backwood Barns
10:10:56 Charm's Wubs
I will always recommend planted. It will also help keep your tank clean and water quality higher because plants remove nitrates/nitrites from the fish waste.
Dash and Duchess
10:10:54 DD | ~Squizard~
Versa & Bird, gotta love plants and fishies!
-
Bird, you should! I made the mistake of not doing one with my tetras and I honestly regret it a bit xD
Backwood Barns
10:08:59 Charm's Wubs
Um, I guess? They're alive, but they're not growing for him. They're only as big as they are because they thrived in my tank. So I guess my advice is to get an established piece?
Hummingbird Meadows
10:08:17 Bird
@DD, yes. I kind of want a betta fish. Trying to decide if I should do a planted tank.
Versailles
10:07:56 Versa
Yes indeed, DD
Backwood Barns
10:07:43 Charm's Wubs
Ironically, he can grow 10-feet long Jungle Val, and as soon as I take a few pieces of it, it dies in my tanks. So it's all about finding the plants that you can maintain and thrive in your tanks!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:07:40 Bird
@Charm, pointless as in easy?
Dash and Duchess
10:07:34 DD | ~Squizard~
Ooo are we talking fish and plants? :D
Backwood Barns
10:07:03 Charm's Wubs
Bird, then you need to have a good piece of driftwood or lava rock to attach it to. But they still grow and require trimming! I have a giant anubias in my 135 that has been growing for 6 years on a large piece of driftwood. I can't seem to kill it, but I'll give pieces to my dad for his tank whenever I need to do maintanance and he can't get them to grow at all. Some pieces that are 3 years old are the same size as when I gave them to him. So... I'm not sure about that. I think they're easy and great plants. If you asked my dad he'd say they're pointless LOL

Hey guys, just signed up the other day. I have a couple questions.
First, is inbreeding okay? Will it affect the foal in any way? And will I be able to sell inbred foals?
Second, how does crossbreeding work? Is it possible to crossbreed? What breed will a crossbred foal be? Do people buy crossbred foals? And I saw on the chat a mention that anything shorter than 14.2 hh is a sport pony. Is that true? Are there other ways to get different breeds?
Third, can a free account purchase and use straws? What's a sexed straw? Is it worth it to buy straws to breed my mares or should I just use my stallions?
Thank you for reading and helping me out!!

Most all horses on HEE are inbred so no nothing effects the foals yes people do buy them.
Pretty sure there is a guild for cross breeding horses and what you could get they wouldnt say ISH cross with pon it would be one or other yes people buy them.
No only primum accounts can use straws

Inbreeding is fine as long as horses match. You can breed in a really bad trait weakness anytime you're not pairing strengths to weaknesses correctly. So say if the offspring comes out with the sire's weaknesses, you wouldn't want to send her back to her sire. However if they ended up with traits more like her dam's, you could use him again.
Edit: For example most top KNN are weak in Scp because for a while the only WWW KNN stud was weak there. Since you can't crossbreed KNN, people used him like crazy. However this girl is an example of when inbreeding works because she ended up with strengths similar to her dam's.

As Electra mentioned there is a guide for crossbreeding here.

A sexed straw is an item that will fix the gender of your foal if you use a straw in the match. You can't use one with a live cover.

It is worth it to use other peoples' stallions as long as you make sure they're stronger ones. However as a free stable you can just use live covers instead of straws.

here is the cross breeding sheet
WB sire X WB dam = WB foal
TB sire X TB dam = TB foal
WB sire X TB dam = WB foal
TB sire X WB dam = SH foal
SH crossed with anything except ISH = SH foal
SH crossed with ISH = ISH foal
RID (sire or dam) x RID = RID
RID (sire or dam) x anything = ISH
ISH (sire or dam) x anything = ISH
KNN sire X KNN dam = KNN foal IF a filly has LP or a colt has LP and PATN. If a foal doesn't meet these criteria, it will be a SH
RID or ISH sire X KNN = ISH
KNN sire X RID or ISH dam = ISH
KNN sire X anything not KNN, ISH, or RID = SH
Any sire not KNN, ISH, or RID X KNN = SH
AA sire X AA dam = AA
Any AA x TB = AA
X sire with X dam = X
Any X with TB = X
PON x Anything = PON if the foal 14.2 hands or under
PON x Anything = SH if the foal is over 14.2 hands
