Make sure you don't have any extra semi-colons? Maybe try creating a new version of it with the default nav code and substituting in HEX codes?

How do you make the horse Eden Eventing bit go away at the top off the page? And make a website background stay and not go into a solid background colour?

To make the background stick, under body { put this code :
background-attachment : fixed;

I'm a little confused by what you mean with the first part?
