Training Question? June 28, 2019 10:43 PM

Okay okay okay SO...
I like never train my horses because I don't really do shows (I'm trying to get into it I swear) and this game year I've been more focused on training my yearlings and 2 year olds and I have a question that's probably gonna sound dumb. I currently have 2 little baby EEEs, both are really similar crosses (like EEE x E) and both have had 4 weeks of training but one only popped up to 2 on one stat and the other popped to 2 on three stats. Does this mean the one who's improved the most is likely a stronger producer? Or does this only have to do with showing and training?
If anyone has any insights I'd be very thankful! (Sorry if this has been asked before, I skimmed the forum and didn't see anything about it)

Edit: this probably should've gone into the help section, but it's open for discussion too, so sorry if it's in the wrong place

Years ago when I was here before (when P was the highest rating and E was being suggested) there was discussion on the boards that training bars were not an absolute measurement of horse quality, they were a graphic representation of the percentage of your horse's potential it had reached. This means a horse with a lower "ceiling" can gain stripes faster than a higher-rated horse, but it will never reach the same score levels or compete in shows as well. But this is mainly visible in later years of training when the lower rating is reaching its max potential and the EEE still has room to get better.

Here are 2 geldings from my stable, one SPP and one SEE, both training in all disciplines. The SPP has 11 training sessions and the SEE 17, but the SPP has either the same or more stripes than the SEE and is in higher showing levels. I'm sure as they get older the gap will widen, the SPP will hit his max and the SEE will soar ahead.

Any horse at HEE can be a great show horse - as soon as it will reach a certain training level, no matter which rating it has.

But training ist never an indicator on how good or bad a horse is able to produce.

Training shows which traits are better or worse and you want to track them on younger horses, so you will be able to match them the right way for their first breeding(s).

Any HEE breeding is affected by a random factor.
Some horses seems to trigger slightly better random factors, some not - but this is only a personal opinion!

But the training has nothing to do with breeding.
There have been very many "wonderhorses" training-wise that bombed as a producer and there have been a lot of slow training horses, that turned out to be great producers and ended up high on their boards ;)

Thanks guys! This has been really helpful. As I said, I'm not really a trainer and I've only recently gotten into breeding for ratings, so I honestly wasn't sure. I've tried matching from training stats and it hasn't made a huge difference, but it's nice to know that training itself doesn't impact breeding.

What tracking training does is allow you to see what traits come up fastest IN THAT HORSE so you know where its strengths and weaknesses are. Try to match your stud to a mare that's strong where he is weak. If his movement and scope are low, find a mare that has those traits high. Of course, the random factor does still mess you up sometimes, but that's how training "affects" breeding. The training stripes can be used as a guide to make good breeding matches.
