On clicker training
I've found the
Equine Clicker 101 podcast with Shawna Karrasch
to be amazing. She talks about what the session is about, what to look for in behavior, how to set it up - then she gives time to try it, and gives follow up advice for the majority of scenarios that could've happened during your session and how to fix it and try again.
Unfortunately there's no new episodes as it's a finished series but so much to work on like target training.

On long lining
I've had a lot of people swear by the Monty Robert Dually Halter. It has a movable noseband with rings on both sides.

And I've got some pony sized reflective leg wraps on their way for him too- I was hoping he'd get away with wearing Minnie's but he ended up wearing them as anklets xD

Is there a easy way to see where your fed horses are ranking at the moment?

Haha that's alright! I do have a cavesson that fits him actually so could give it a go. My poor mother will be getting her steps in to help me get him going haha

Oh that's another one actually- do any of you long-rein without a bit in, and if so what tack do you put on? Ted's got a year without a bit as I'll not know if his wolf teeth have fallen out until his next dentist check (and then he'll have them removed if they haven't) but I'd like to get him longreining before then to help his confidence

It ultimately is luck but using maps and capturing on capture day helps a lot. I am kind of a capture addict lol if you just keep going you will lose a lot of money but eventually you might get something good lol

I can pm you some book and video recommendations! Have done a lot of clicker training and really recommend it. It is so motivating and fun for them (and us hehe)

Worst fall I've had was when a horse I was excersing reared up and went over backwards on me before I could bail because he spooked at something. Ended up breaking (more like hair ling fractures so not a full on break of the C3 and C4. The same virtebre that Christpher Reeves broke) neck. And hand half my rib cage crushed when the horse landed on top of me.

Jesus that is one hell of a fall! I've come off plenty of times but never broke anything thank fuck. My worst one was a buckskin in training, later learned if you rode him in a bit he would rear/flip over. He did and landed on my leg, bruised it to hell and crushed my stirrup but didn't wallow around.

My first fall, I tore off the skin of my right forearm. Like, i had a very thin layer of skin at best. But that was my old, crappy barn, so not surprising. I think my worst fall was a couple years ago, at a new barn. Doing figure eights with a green gelding, my horse is engaged and listening to me. That was before a construction worker popped in and called for my trainer across the arena. Scared my horse out of his wits, I went one way he went the other. I landed flat on my butt and didn't even realize I was injured until I sat in the car and almost threw up from the sudden wave of pain. Ended up breaking my tailbone in three different places and jamming my back so badly that I shrunk two inches. Still feels like hell, and I haven't recovered my height 😆 Not the worst injury I've had, but the worst fall of the three so far.

The worst i've had was from falling of my gelding Rocko (Image on stable bio). A month after I bought him I took him out for a trail ride ( probibly not the wisest choice), and when we where about 10 minutes away from the stable or so, he spooked at a Gunshot that was like LESS THEN A QUARTER MILE AWAY and attemted to take off running down a steep Gravil trail wich resulted in him tripping, doing a litteral FRONT FLIP with me on his back, and landing on the ground back first, he jumped up and bolted, and I was just lying there for 10 minutes or so before somebody found me, (Aperintly he had run RIGHT back to the stable without me). Crushed 4 ribs when he landed on me, fractured both wristes in different places when I tried to catch myself, and SHATTERED my lower left leg. And he was lame for 9 months. People at the stable where suggjesting I euthinise him becouse he's "Dangerus". I friken cuddle him before I leave the stable. Long story short, left that place, healed up nicely :) Im super thankful he wasent shot on accedent. Im still so confused why they choose gravil for the trail.
