Absolutely haha. I'm really proud of him though- he arrived at the end of May vaguely leadable but pretty much feral and had to live in the field shelter for a week. Now he's out in the field with no headcollar 24/7 and I can lob a rug onto him while he's loose without him lifting his head

Yeah Boulder so relatable. I try to let my horse initiate touch and the things we do whenever possible. Like take the extra five minutes to let her walk up to me in the field instead of going out and getting her, pause when she turns her head away when brushing, etc. It changes the game truly and has honestly completely changed how I go about life in general, for the better. Horses have so little autonomy in our world so the little things like that we can do means so much to them. When I’m bridling a horse or anything like that I notice that they will maybe seem like they’re saying no initially by turning away or something. If you notice and respect that a lot of the time they will immediately put their nose in after, where if you had tried to chase after them it probably would escalate. That whole philosophy just means a lot to me

Speaking of training
- I saw incredible training with Dan of Double Dan
What he can do with horses is amazing
I was enthralled with the Road To The Horse exhibition
Silver Melody Acres

Typical gangly teenage boy XD
Minerva

Haha I'll put a bit less pressure on myself then thank you. I'm hoping to get some poles before the end of the year so we can do some proprioception work because my goodness that boy doesn't know where his feet are xD Plus side is he doesn't mind things being around his legs whatsoever since he's so used to wandering into things

No lines, and no chasing. You just don't know our way and I'll leave it at that.

I wasn't a super fan of Warwick until I saw an article heading that said something like Let Your Horse Approach You
(Yes literally only read the title)
And it's made a Huge improvement in my interactions with the horses at the barn.
I can have the stall door open and have them between me at it (huge outdoor pen) and they will chose to come to me and boop my hand without any interaction besides standing still.

And I saw a video where he said don't touch the horse until they touch you and they will tell you where to touch

(Some of it feels woowoo, but it's making a difference in the relationships between the horses and I)

Yeah of course, it’s definitely a trust the process kind of exercise you have to be patient and you’ll feel like you’re not doing anything but worth it. I enjoy when training feels more collaborative with our animal friends, worth the time it takes

And seconding Warwick Schiller, he's one of the few clinicians I really respect.

Awww good pony! It just sounds like typical laziness/not being confident enough to carry himself forward. He'll get there!
Minerva
01:35:18 Min
Ooh I'll have a look at that one, thanks Red!
Minerva
01:34:16 Min
Haha exactly Puck! I'm hoping the more we go out the more keen he'll be to get on with it. He's a very good chap overall- and he's even happy to walk out in front of Minnie if I've got someone to lead her. He met his first tractor last night and was a 10/10 brave boy bless him

Unless your lunge lunge is 200 feet long it's gonna be a small circle lol
Red Horizon Ranch
01:33:01 Red
And no chasing, showing them who’s boss, etc. necessary. I really don’t enjoy having to do that kind of thing and good news, you really basically never have to XD

I said nothing about small circles, but whatever.
We have a different view of how to do things with 2 yr olds.

I really like Warwick Schiller’s “leading with energy” exercise for staying in the right position/responsiveness when leading, my mate was so “lazy” seeming and wanted to be directly behind me while leading, would pin her ears and swish tail when asked to go forward, it worked incredibly well
Minerva
01:31:33 Min
To be honest the maximum I'd ever lunge any horse is like 20 minutes, and that would be their entire work for the day. It has it's place but isn't my preferred method for anything
FirstLightFarms
01:30:53 puck
Min, he sounds like my pony! Just needs to learn a little responsibility about walking forward instead of being dragged every step 😂
FirstLightFarms
01:30:05 puck
Yeah it'd hurt, small circles are the worst for babies. Great way to do damage to their joints. And chasing a horse on the line isnt exactly the best way to establish you're in charge 🙃
Minerva
01:29:48 Min
That's great Puck, thank you! He naturally likes to put himself behind me, although we've been working on that and he's much happier walking out nicely now. When we're out and about he plants a few times right at the start, then likes to march. He's definitely more of a woah than go pony, which will be great when I'm backing him in a few years, but not ideal with ride and lead haha

Name: Sage
Gender: Male
Age: 20 years
Appearance: Messy black hair that falls over his eyes that's died a sort of silverish color (he uses it to kinda hide behind but also to look intimidating), golden amber eyes, Very tall (5'10''), very tan skin since he lives out in the streets, lots of scars but the most obvious is one down his left cheek, Very slim and light (About 160 pounds since food is a bit scarce and he works all day but gets paid almost nothing, and isn't treated well at all, Although he's slim he's still muscular (more refined than bulky), gives off an air of power and/or menace, has a low voice that is quiet and scratchy
Personality: Very mistrusting because of his backstory, would generally rather be alone than with humans, he comes across as cold/rude/uncaring, he's very blunt and a bit crude, he's very stubborn and an extremely good fighter, when fighting he just jumps in without thinking, very hot-headed with a bad temper, tries not to get too attached to anyone, but once he forms a relationship he is very loyal and protective, he has no qualms about killing anyone/anything if that's needed
Weaknesses: Hot-headedness (he often gets hurt or in trouble because of it), he's very untrusting so he doesn't like to accept help, he gets flashbacks (mostly from his father, who he doesn't get along with) from his past which affects him greatly in a very negative way
Strengths: Hunting, fighting, very skilled in sneaking around, knows the streets and forests nearby well so he's great at hiding, very quick and agile, very strong
Other: Has a disorder that causes the occasional seizure

Sure, is there any specific way you want to start? Sage getting arrested maybe?

Sage was sneaking through a side alley, a bag of apples clutched against his chest. He'd taken them from a store down the street, hoping for a snack he didn't have to pay for, since he didn't exactly have the most money, and he was really hungry. Though, when he heard police sirens, he cursed and took off, bolting down the streets in hopes of not getting caught. He really didn't want to spend any more time in a jail cell than he had to. As he turned the corner though, he pretty much ran straight into a rather large, bulky officer, who had him caught and in handcuffs before he even knew what was happening. He was rather annoyed when they didn't even get the apples off the muddy ground...they just seemed to care about having him stand there, panting while they discussed everything. He'd fought, of course, and was a bit much for the two cops, so he decided he felt good about that at least.

Elizabeth sat at the table in the main dinning area of the police department, enjoying a cup of coffee and French toast. Her dog and the department's furry officer Milo lay near the feet of her chair, hoping that she'd drop a piece for him. She chuckled and continued to eat peacefully.

Her radio buzzed, telling her that she would be needed to interrogate a man who was caught stealing. They told her they'd be at the prison in half an hour or so. She cursed under her breath. She wanted to finish her breakfast, but duty called. She pat Milo on the head before grabbing her keys and hopping into her police car.

Sage was eventually shoved into the police car, though it took a total of four large men and two dogs, and a lot of effort on their end. Hed taken a bite from one of the dogs on the leg, which was probably why they'd wound up able to get him off his feet enough to get him in the car...but he was rather pleased with himself all the same. He propped his feet up on the steel bars in front of him and sort of just acted like he could care less about it all. He was nervous a bit though, he could admit that. They arrived and hour later than they were supposed to, which brought a slight smirk to his face though.
