Sage hummed softly as she spoke, shrugging after a moment. "Well really everything is temporary," he pointed out, then immediately realized that probably wasn't the comfort she was looking for and wrinkled his nose with a sigh. "Although I'm pretty sure the doctor is immortal," he noted with a small snicker. He moved on though, after a moment, just squeezing her gently. "I know. I thought I'd lost you for a while too," he recalled, tipping his head slightly. "But we're still here, together, and that's all that matters."

Maris eyes widened at his first comment, momentarily panicking before shaking her head. No, not everything had to be temporary. She'd always love Sage, and the kids, and that wasn't temporary. But him being there, with them, was... and it was scaring her every moment she thought about it. She knew he was back now... but how long was that going to last for? Not long, she assumed. She felt her brows pinching, and that knot just tightened. "I... don't know what we would have done if we lost you, Sage," she whispered after a few moments, kind of keeping her gaze set on the plate of food.

Sage sort of sighed when his comments didn't seem to help, sort of just curling in a bit more. He knew what she was thinking....the knot that seemed like it would never leave. He'd been in the same spot before, thinking she'd died. "I know," he noted gently, figuring it would be better for her to process her emotions with it all. "But you didn't. And you're not going to," he noted softly, sort of just setting the food off to one side so he could curl in and hold her with both arms.

Mari let out a soft breath when he moved the tray, and kind of moved to curl in just a little bit more, her head resting lightly on his shoulder. "Sage, you don't know that," she whispered quietly. It was possible. She could loose him at any given moment. People could do anything they wanted. They could come and do the exactly the same thing all over again. It seemed so easy for it to happen. "What if they came back to find you - you never do anything easily. They'd know you're in contact with the queen and..." she trailed off, just biting the inside of her cheek to stop herself. She didn't want to think like that.

Sage sort of hummed when Mari kept talking, cocking his head slightly. "They don't know I'm so close to Anya," he noted softly. "They had hundreds of people down there.....they should have known the queen would do something about it once she caught wind of it." He shook his head slightly. "If anyone sees them, they'll alert the authorities....they won't dare show their faces around here," he pointed out gently. They would be ok.....they were trying to make a covert operation, and they had been exposed. They would be hiding for a while, and keeping out of trouble.

Mari furrowed her brows as he spoke, knowing somewhere deep down he was right, and that they'd be okay now. Safe, even, but something about it all was still nagging at her. They must have been watching them. They were probably hoping to find the kids or... something. They knew who'd lived here, and it scared her even more that they really just might not be safe here. Sure, some people would alert the authorities if they saw them, but others would be so scared of their influence they might give information out. "I'm not so sure," she eventually sighed, tilting her head back just a little to look up at him. "They might not see it like that, Sage. You know what people are like and... I don't know how safe we are." She sort of settled an arm over his side, her hand moving to play softly with his hair - more to comfort herself than anything, she thought, but she couldn't get over the fact she still could do that. That Sage was still here with them. With her.

Sage hummed softly as she spoke, nodding along. "They're not people from the slums...they're not desperate on this sort of thing for survival," he reminded her. "It was like a sort of side gig. They already spoiled their name, they won't want to be here anymore," he pointed out. He knew there was a chance of people coming back and whatnot, but really it was very low. And aftr he'd caused so much trouble, he doubted they'd pick him out again anyway. "They won't risk the queen getting involved again....they just barely got away last time," he added. He curled in though, letting her play with his hair, the touch a bit grounding for him too. "We'll be ok," he murmured, as much to convince himself as her. Because while he knew the logistics of it....he was still nervous about it all. Scared something else would go wrong.

Mari just found herself staring at him after a moment. A side gig? Hell, while she was walking through that warehouse it didn't look like a side gig. When she'd found Sage chained up like an animal it didn't look like a side gig. Them taking people from their family in such masses it didn't look like a side gig. It had been planned out, and it had been going on for who knows how long. Her brows pinched together slightly, and she couldn't help but grit her teeth. "I don't think..." she sort of paused, figuring just to let it go. It'd stress her out if she thought about it anymore. She just shifted onto her side and curled in a little, her head resting just on his shoulder. She was just glad she was able to do this still.
