Yeah Boulder so relatable. I try to let my horse initiate touch and the things we do whenever possible. Like take the extra five minutes to let her walk up to me in the field instead of going out and getting her, pause when she turns her head away when brushing, etc. It changes the game truly and has honestly completely changed how I go about life in general, for the better. Horses have so little autonomy in our world so the little things like that we can do means so much to them. When I’m bridling a horse or anything like that I notice that they will maybe seem like they’re saying no initially by turning away or something. If you notice and respect that a lot of the time they will immediately put their nose in after, where if you had tried to chase after them it probably would escalate. That whole philosophy just means a lot to me

Speaking of training
- I saw incredible training with Dan of Double Dan
What he can do with horses is amazing
I was enthralled with the Road To The Horse exhibition
Silver Melody Acres

Typical gangly teenage boy XD

Haha I'll put a bit less pressure on myself then thank you. I'm hoping to get some poles before the end of the year so we can do some proprioception work because my goodness that boy doesn't know where his feet are xD Plus side is he doesn't mind things being around his legs whatsoever since he's so used to wandering into things

No lines, and no chasing. You just don't know our way and I'll leave it at that.

I wasn't a super fan of Warwick until I saw an article heading that said something like Let Your Horse Approach You
(Yes literally only read the title)
And it's made a Huge improvement in my interactions with the horses at the barn.
I can have the stall door open and have them between me at it (huge outdoor pen) and they will chose to come to me and boop my hand without any interaction besides standing still.

And I saw a video where he said don't touch the horse until they touch you and they will tell you where to touch

(Some of it feels woowoo, but it's making a difference in the relationships between the horses and I)

Yeah of course, it’s definitely a trust the process kind of exercise you have to be patient and you’ll feel like you’re not doing anything but worth it. I enjoy when training feels more collaborative with our animal friends, worth the time it takes

And seconding Warwick Schiller, he's one of the few clinicians I really respect.

Awww good pony! It just sounds like typical laziness/not being confident enough to carry himself forward. He'll get there!

Ooh I'll have a look at that one, thanks Red!

Haha exactly Puck! I'm hoping the more we go out the more keen he'll be to get on with it. He's a very good chap overall- and he's even happy to walk out in front of Minnie if I've got someone to lead her. He met his first tractor last night and was a 10/10 brave boy bless him

Unless your lunge lunge is 200 feet long it's gonna be a small circle lol

And no chasing, showing them who’s boss, etc. necessary. I really don’t enjoy having to do that kind of thing and good news, you really basically never have to XD

I said nothing about small circles, but whatever.
We have a different view of how to do things with 2 yr olds.

I really like Warwick Schiller’s “leading with energy” exercise for staying in the right position/responsiveness when leading, my mate was so “lazy” seeming and wanted to be directly behind me while leading, would pin her ears and swish tail when asked to go forward, it worked incredibly well
Minerva

To be honest the maximum I'd ever lunge any horse is like 20 minutes, and that would be their entire work for the day. It has it's place but isn't my preferred method for anything

Min, he sounds like my pony! Just needs to learn a little responsibility about walking forward instead of being dragged every step 😂

Yeah it'd hurt, small circles are the worst for babies. Great way to do damage to their joints. And chasing a horse on the line isnt exactly the best way to establish you're in charge 🙃
Minerva

That's great Puck, thank you! He naturally likes to put himself behind me, although we've been working on that and he's much happier walking out nicely now. When we're out and about he plants a few times right at the start, then likes to march. He's definitely more of a woah than go pony, which will be great when I'm backing him in a few years, but not ideal with ride and lead haha

Going in circles for more than a few minutes is not good for baby joints

He raises an eyebrow, "A flower? You want me to risk my ship and my crew for… a flower?”

The man chuckles, the noise quickly turning into a groan as he drags his hands down his face. Ciaran couldn't help but stare at the young woman. She was a curiosity, to say the least. Why she was willing to throw her life away to search for people no doubt dead by now was beyond him, but who was he to judge? They sit for a moment in silence as he thinks, the gentle rocking of the ship lulling the man into a calmer state. After a while he sighs heavily, stalking towards the door with cat-like grace, "Gods, I'm going to regret this. Come on, let's get you introduced to Cook.”

He tugs open the door, as he disappears into the blinding light of the sun. Before him slay the crew. A majority of them were strewn about, huddled in groups. They didn't seem to be ruthless as they lounged, joking and laughing with one another, and some even offered to help those working or going through cargo. However, it was just the relationship the crew had, like that of a family, and it was woven like a web. A few shot glances as Ciaran passed, no doubt confusion spreading among them as he was tailed by the young woman. Their brisk walk across the deck led them into the shadowy depths below. The stairs stopped in a large room, long tables spread out in front of them with various items left behind, and the space was lit with lanterns hung from the rafters, and behind the stairs lay a door which led to a hall of rooms and storage space. The back portion of the room was split by a bar-type wall with a window to peek through. Beyond the wall, the warm glow of a fire casted a dancing shadow across the ceiling.

A voice, humming a tune no doubt picked up from the previous port, could be heard from the stairs. The faint smell of spices hung in the air, and the clanging of pots, pans, and silverware grew as they neared. Ciaran shoves open the door with confidence, stopping in his tracks with a grin as a knife lodges into the wall near his head. His grin widens, “Good evening, Cook. I’ve brought you some help.”

He nudges the girl forward, “This is… Did I ever catch your name?”

"Yes, a flower," Sadie confirmed. "And like I said, it's a special flower. Make a mixture with it and it will cure an ailments. Anything at all, legend says. So, I think it's quite the treasure. A one-of-a-kind rare material." Sadie cocked her head and held the Captain's stare, smiling smugly when he mentioned the cook.

Squinting into the light outside, Sadie marveled at how bright it could be so early in the morning and how fast it had risen. She's spent a lot longer down below than she'd thought. She kept a close distance to the Captain, the hairs at the back of her neck rising under the scrutiny of many men. She knew she should take the opportunity to observe the others in their relaxed state, but kept her gaze trained on the Captain's back, choosing to admire his broad shoulders and obviously muscular back instead.

Sadie did, however, concentrate more on their surroundings as they came up to a door, which she guessed led down below. She couldn't be sure, as she was in a crate when she boarded, and was too busy fighting the men hauling her back on deck to see the Captain. She admired the soft glow of the lantern light, and the dancing light caused by a fire. The effect it made on the ceiling above was ethereal, and Sadie thought she could lie there and watch it all night.

The there was the tune. One she recognised. It was an old sailor's lullaby, something she heard often growing up. Most sang it with a bright tune, but Sadie had always thought the words to be more mournful, just like how the voice was humming in now. She liked this version better. The tune mixed with the sounds of a kitchen made Sadie's muscles relax, until the knife lodged in the wall beside the Captain. Anxiety roiled in her chest as she was pushed forward, her gaze flicking to the Captain's face. "Uhm, no. I'm, Sadie," she said, rearranging her face into an easy grin. She looked from the cook to the Captain. "So, does this mean we have a deal?"

Is character A getting kidnapped by a pirate lord and then assuming his name/identity based on The Princess Bride? Just wondering
