I'm working at a new ranch and I love it! And I'm getting to work with a new horse which is exciting! He a mustang and has basic training but I'm going to be the one working on refining the skills and making him more responsive to less force from the rider. However right now I'm in like his "testing" period and am sorta struggling to connect with him lol he's very stubborn and determined to do sorta the opposite of what I want, any tips on getting out of the testing zone and into a start of a relationship between horse and rider? I know being patient and gentle yet firm but any other tips?

@Dulcie, I posted in a couple local Facebook groups. What is frustrating is she doesn't understand why I can't "just let it go." It's hard to let it go when you dropped his cat off without consulting me and then get mad at me for being upset that my brother was abusing it.

Nope. There's a whole fiasco with my brother's cat.

He broke up with his girlfriend and decided he couldn't bear to even look at it so she brought it home and told me to find it a new home. She also said when she picked it up it had been locked in a room with little to no food and water or a litter box so it was peeing everywhere.

Anyways, I never agreed to help rehome his cat and I think my brother should grow some balls and take care of HIS pet by finding it a new home.

I tried to tell my Mom that you need an appointment, but she shrugged it off and now she is pissed and taking it out on me.

In my latest blog post there's some gifs of me riding from 2016-now. I think I've improved so much. What do you guys think?

also here's a screenshot of us jumping 2'6. I know I'm a little ahead of the motion, if you were to see the actual video you would know he really moved up to that fence and it was appropriate.

He's quite the cutie.
But I have sad news guys, I have five lessons and two shows left on Melvin before I can't ride him anymore-in switching trainers and my new trainer isn't a school's horse trainer, and the new owners of my barn recently made the rule that private trainers can't use schoolies. so I won't ever get to ride Melvin again after that. :'(

If you really want to keep him, and feel he is your forever horse, there is always a way. This is always an opportunity to expand your skills as a rider too.

There is no way to keep him. He's not even mine. He's a school horse. He gets ridden by a lot of people, though I'm the only advanced rider that works him harder. And the only way I can keep riding him is if I stay in the lesson program, in which I can't show hunters and I don't get to jump higher. in the lesson program we jump 2'3 verticals and with another trainer at the same barn who boards horses there and works there as a private trainer, I got to jump a 2'9 hunter course with her. But now the new owners of the barn changed the rules and school horses cannot be ridden with private trainers.
I'll still get to ride him occasionally, but not like I used to, and I won't get to show him.
