So at the end of every month there is a play day thing that me and my friend go to. The place it's held at is called Ride On Ranch, roranch for short. The closest event is this Saturday. If you guys say my post about my horse Frost, then you would know that I compete in it with him, and my friend competes with her mare Nelly.

My Point: Frost likes to be hot headed (He is a light grey QH, barrel racer. And he came from the feed lot), he like to have his head super high, and I don't have the money or really time, to go out and get him special things to help with this, so does anyone know anything about maybe calming a horse down before a show, but then still be ready to run his race?

We are going to leave the barn at 6 AM, so we won't have time to work the energy out of him, without him being tired out for his run. There are also like 6 events to do.

Here is a picture of my friend Kamryn, she is on the brown pony, the girl on the black and white paint is Annie, she knows aboslutly NOTHING about horses or how to ride them. She owns a hunter-jumper gelding, she rode him wrong and within the first month he was lame. Kamryn's mom said she was never bringing her again, she sat out for over half of it because "She kept whipping the horse with the reins, Kicking like a tornado breaks houses and CRYING because the horse only trotted." (Words from Kamryn)

I only got to go to one of the two they went to, because i was busy, but in this picture i was second to last in the Juniors section, Taylor Sinde. Also, like I said above Frost was being a brat and didn't want to go. But that was also my first time ever competing and ever on Frost.

So can anyone help with the hot headedness? (Also Frost is featured in my banner and avi)

Some tips to keep your horse calm at shows

<font class="mainlineblack">
Take your horse on a relaxed hack the day before. If you're all practice and no rest right up to the day of the show, it's only by nature that your horse will be anxious

If you stay calm, your horse stays calm. Remember to keep taking deep breathes and let your horse have a rider it can be confident in.

When your horse is getting a little spooky, keep trotting until they're more focused on you. Half halts, gait transitions and many small circles in different places in the arena can keep your horse focused on you, not distractions that might spook it. Also do things like getting the hind end over to prevent bolting.

On the day of the show, you can lunge your horse(s) after unloading to stretch their legs out and get some of the jitters out.

Flexing and a lot of transitions keep your horse occupied and supple before your classes. you don't want them entering the arena stiff-muscled.

To help yourself -and your horse- stay calm and collected for your classes, take deep breathes and tell yourself to ride just like you would at any other schooling day at home.

If your horse is tense and over alert to it's surroundings, take it for a ride away from the rest of the competitors and horses.

Always Remember
<font class="mainlineblack">It's not the ribbon, it's the ride. Ride for your benefit, not your trophy collection's. So just have fun.

My guy is pretty hot when coming off the trailer and wiggly when tacking up so I give him his hay to keep him calm and busy and that helps set the tone for the day. You can also give Rasberry leaves which has helped as a calming supplement

I also let him graze in between the events (thereÂ’s 6). And he gets a flake of alfalfa before and after the whole event. AND he does get a bit antsy in the trailer, he also follows Nelly all around and he gets kinda weird when she isnÂ’t around him so.
