What you can do with your mare is use the strongest you can afford. If she does amazingly with one, either repeat match or find a boy with similar training and see if she also does well with that one

Thank you, AL!! I just got out of the “junior stable” phase but I swear sometimes it feels like I am still only a month in lol
Thank you all so much <3

Yes, that's correct Louix (:
Still a lovely mare, she can still have some luck in her breedings if matched with strong studs. I think there's some nice WB ones out there too, but not my breed so no clue specific ones lol.
Best of luck! ♡

Louix, a general tips: never use breeding stock for trails/clinics. If quests use geldings

Okay, well I appreciate it! So is it a good idea to only to trails and clinics with horses you mainly plan to show? That way you can watch the traits accurately for breeding?
ArcticLights
11:20:22 Ceci / (Call me) AL
As Glass says, usually only one trait w3 and after several generations of sven use

No, not then, at least not naturally.
I've owned a few wild WWWs and watched many more, never seen it happen even once lol.
Even the strongest only start at week 4 without boosting

Darn. I usually try to leave them alone until I see them move up in something so I can see what they’re weak in. And I’ve never gotten one that’s skills match up with a a specific discipline so I’m always stumped on what to do
Looking Glass Stable
11:18:02 IA Glass 👋
It makes them unmatchable because it messes with the training stats. You get the boosted version, not their innate natural traits anymore.
You won't see an AD horse go up their Week3 except in extremely rare cases of maybe a single trait going up in horses that have been bred with Svens for generations

AL, she's a wild so wouldn't she go up on her week 3?
LouixVillage
11:17:22 Louix
I guess it makes sense! I’ve never seen any movement in the training bars with the stallion I do trail rides with, even when it’s all + results

There is no way she went up 3 on her week 3 so not accurate

I never knew trails and clinics made horses unmatchable, I've been doing it quite often for a few of mine!

11:15:02 Louix
It should be accurate up until her week 4

I think I’ve put her in 1 trail ride and 2 clinics.. :’) I usually only do it for quests so I haven’t done it a lot thank goodness.

11:12:32 Ceci / (Call me) AL
That is a big mistake cause it makes horses unmatchable

Yesterday I was on a walk through some of the old villages in the Portuguese mountains, and I stopped at a cafe and started chatting with this old Portuguese lady. In the middle of our conversation, the cutest little fluffy puppy comes running round the corner and comes to my knee for cuddles. I instantly fell in love and the lady said I could have him for free as she already had 2 others and I would be doing her a favour. He will be arriving at my house tomorrow! He is a mix breed, but with lots of Serra Da Estrela dog in him, so he is probably going to be pretty big and fluffy!

I have experience taking care of dogs, but Ive never had a puppy. He is already trained to pee/poop on those mats you can put inside, but do you guys have any good methods on how to train them to do it outside? I would also love some diet tips as I will be keeping him on his normal puppy food that he was eating for a little while to wean him off it, but its cheap stuff and not great, do you guys have any suggestions for good meals to give him? Good brands?

and any other useful puppy tips would be much appreciated, I've already done research on it of course, but extra help is always amazing!

merry Christmas everybody

Food Tip: Blue Buffalo Life Protection is always a good option, including Deboned Chicken, Chicken meal, Oatmeal, and barley. My 6 puppies love it!
Bathroom tip: I use this for my pups, bring them outside after a nap and mealtime. And rewarding them for not using the bathroom as a toilet.

Get in the habit of taking the pup out in the morning and about an hour after he's been fed.
For overnight tho, I strongly suggest using a crate. They tend not to 'go' where they sleep. Take outside right after letting him out of it.
Ukanuba, or Iams puppy food are some of the best. We used it for our show dogs. Gave them beautiful shiny coats.
Leash training, no jumping on you and no biting you (or anyone).
Training time should always be fun, but keep lessons short. 15-20 minutes max. They can be done several times a day.
Need any more suggestions, pm me.

For training, I strongly recommend positive reinforcement and clicker training. These methods have worked the best for me. You can also use both for teaching him to do his business outside. Crates are very useful for overnight too.
Kong toys are my favorite for puppies in their chewing stage.
I also suggest finding a good vet and consulting them about his diet :)

Im sorry I dont have much advice BUT I LOVE ESTRELAS OMGGGG
I'd crate him over night while hes young (or keep him in a puppy proofed locked room) just so he doesnt get up and chew on anything dangerous or something like that
I'd also suggest you do little sessions of training with him and do it consistently to teach him early on
And make sure everyone in your house understands the rules, for example if its 'not being fed from the table', everyone has to follow that rule, because if one person does feed him from the table it messes it up
anyways CONRGATS ON YOUR PUPPY DOG
please spam me with pics you fabulous hottie

VERY helpful site for diet & food help!!

Just thought I would let you know that this page is to be taken with a heavy grain of salt. The page is run by HUMAN dentist who has no degrees in any sort of nutrition (human or animal). He vaguely states he's done "professional studies in human nutrition" and is interested for canine nutrition.

He actively promotes non-evidenced based claims on his website. He's also rated foods potentially linked to DCM higher than foods following WSAVA guidelines. There is a little more but this isn't the space to write it :) Feel free to PM me for more info or research Mike Sagman (the dentist who runs a dog food review website).

I'd recommend one of the foods that follow WSAVA guidelines if possible: Hills Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina are top three but are pretty expensive
