Resizing? March 13, 2025 04:21 PM

Hey there!!
Normally when I make pieces for this website I'd make it on a 500x500 canvas. Understandably, banners lack quality and when I resize I lose that quality and my details turn blurry. In addition working on a larger canvas gives sharper details but once again when resized I lose most if not all of my crisp lines.
Is there a way to resize without losing quality? I've also made 1000x1000 images and just kept the horse itself in a 500x500 square but when I add details to the background and have to cut them out that sorta sucks.

Hi! So for stable avatars and banners, the best way to reduce quality loss is to save them and reduce them as png images. PNG images are larger than JPG/JPEG and they also help to maintain crispness. However, this doesn't work for a horse avatar as the image size restrictions are smaller (100kb vs 300kb). I would say your strategy to keep the size of the actual horse in a smaller area is a great strategy but I totally understand the frustration of losing background details.

Thank you! I actually am gonna attempt this. I have an image converter I like to use so maybe if I keep horse avi's in png and then converter them after resize it'll help? We'll see XD

If you convert PNG horse avi to JPEG while resizing, it's going to make it much smaller and probably kill the quality... so I typically do JPEG to JPEG for those but I hope you figure it out! <3
