I didn't mean it as completely bombproof, I was more going for he's very reliable.
My parents at first wouldn't let me ride bridleless period so they are warming up to it as they get it know my horse more.
I've found in my experience with horses that less is more.
He and I are more comfortable without a bit.
Jeez, kinda rambling on here. I'll stop now lol, leaving soon anyways

I haven't ridden for almost 6 months now due to travelling...so I'm pretty nervous to start at a new riding school after being so comfortable at my old one

I honestly really wish I could ride bridleless lol! It's super cool and seems super fun, unfortunately the only horse who wouldn't leave me in another county in about 3 minutes is a chunky lil pony I ride on occasion XD

I agree with Min, meet in the middle by going bitless. That way everyone else will be happy and you will have some form of control if something was to happen. But I totally understand where you're coming from

Doesn't matter, shit happens. Horses can be unpredictable. It only takes once for either of you to be seriously hurt. 😕

I'm also really into bridleless. After switching from one riding school to the next and learning a few things along the way, I'm a strong believer in bridleless and bitless riding and refuse to ride in harsh bits (such as pelhams) anymore. I've ridden with lots of different trainers and they all have very different opinions, but in the end I think it's up to you to form your own opinion :)

Totally appreciate that Cali, but no animal is 100% anything. Its like my sheep-trained terrier with fantastic recall still goes on a lead to go past livestock- its not fair or worth it to put him in a position for something to happen. Personally I'd just chuck a side pull on so theres something for other people to look at (and to help hold him if something were to happen) and ride the same way you would without a bridle

There is no such thing as a 100% bombproof horse. If you are under 18 your parents are responsible if something happens and I understand why they say no

I understand that your horse is bombproof and safe to ride tackless or bridle less, but, i promise you (bad promise though) you will have a few fails, when riding bridle less, it's not easy, even if you have been working on it for a long time..

That is where I'm being pushed. I do understand everyone's concerns but he is bombproof and 100% safe when bridleless.
I've got until December to convince the show hosts so I've been working so hard to keep working on bridleless. I even take him out into the fields tackless and he's always perfect

Cali, brideless is indeed super cool! You should try to talk to your parents about it, because if your horse/lease/horse you are riding is apt to ride bridleless, it should be just fine <3

Do your parents not let you because they think it's dangerous?

Maybe meet in the middle with a bitless bridle? I can see from a "safety of other people" aspect why they wouldnt want a horse at a show with no bridle at all, but its always seemed odd to me that bits are often a firm requirement

Cali, i own a KWPN stallion, who is 7, we do bridle less and bare back all the time, and compete bridle less, and jump 140cm bridle less.. we do it for 3 years now, and at first we got hate as well, but now people are excited and happy to see me and him compete bridle less. Just try to compete bridle less, if you like it (and don't hurt yourself) you can continue! That's my advice..

Its not against the rules technically but my parents won't let me at all, and they're not even equestrians

If it's not against the rules, do it anyway and show off. Bridleless is cool

The competition was today (1/9) and let's just say we need lots more practice before we can be super competitive. Our pole run was great! We ran a 27. The second event was turn and burn. You run down and turn a barrel and run back, sounds easy right? Well apparently not. She got excited that she could run the full length of the arena and then forgot to turn. It doesn't help that she doesn't quite know how to put speed and turns together yet. Last but not least was barrels. We went a bit wide on first which was okay but then she was trying to run home and I barely got her over in time to turn second barrel. The rest of the run was fine though 😅 I am very proud of her even if it wasn’t great. I have owned her for two weeks at it was our first competition. We will do better next time.

It sounds like you guys had a blast. I wish I was in your area. My horses would love the turn and burn pattern you described. It sounds like you guys will be doing a bit of barrel practice before your next competition XD

Terrible weather here today. She is getting a day off 1 for the weather 2 she worked hard yesterday. Whenever I have the chance to ride her again I'm thinking about putting an English saddle on her and mess around with some jumps. Thoughts?

There's no harm in trying jumps. You might just find her preference. If I can remember to get a couple boards to make some standards out of this week, I'm going to try with my barrel horse. Sometimes doing something entirely different can be a good change of pace and give them a nice mental release.

I thought a fun jump day could be good since she is a very tense mare at times.

Ok I rode her again today but not English since it's cold here and she was very fresh. Tomorrow I will probably throw my English saddle on her!

I did it! I threw my English saddle on her and was so surprised. She is a natural. We only went to a little bit over 1 foot but I was so proud of her. Didn't know I it once! The only thing is she cant do ground poles 🤣
