@Versa, that is not avian flu. That comes from moldy feeders.

If it's not avian flu, maybe the heatwaves are throwing off their migrations.

I DO know I've seen some sick hummingbirds, but I suspect these are cases of neighbours not cleaning their feeders. The tongue swells up and the hummingbird can't drink... :(

@Versa, yeah it makes sense. UT is known for their water birds though especially with the great salt lake.

The struggle is if it spreads to the flying flocks. Then the bigger warnings go around. It's not that it primarily affects water birds, as much as it is the water birds aren't really interacting with the other species, if that makes sense

@Versa, that is my understanding, yes. I am in UT and you are way over in TN though.

Wolf,
Other than the fit it has thrown, it's... Doing hand things I guess, functioning as I'd hope while screeching about it angrily. LOL

Ahhh, so you were told to worry about water birds probably because that's what's currently sick in your area. Over here, there's major warnings of avian flu going around and it's suggested feeders are taken down entirely. So it's chill over there, currently
Hummingbird Meadows
10:07:17 Bird
@Versa, I thought about taking my feeder down, but was told in my area to only worry about water birds at the moment. I haven't refilled it anyways though since I hardly see any visitors, but that is typical for summer.

Hummingbirds are considered to be low risk for avian flu.

Nah, it's hitting a lot of things... I've had to bleach my brand new feeder three times already because of sick visitors

I'm willing to bet avian flu has something to do with it, sadly.

I'm definitely curious to know if others have seen less too.

@Cloud, I just made a post in one of my birding groups on Facebook to see if anyone else is experiencing something similar. =/

I saw it has great reviews on rotten tomatoes, but you just cannot beat the beginning of the movie, (like first 2 minutes) where a car blows up but they couldn't afford CGI so it just says "VFX: Car on fire" on screen xD

An update! The past few months have been super busy, so I haven't made much progress. Instead, I've been really honing in the first few chapters until I am satisfied, with the amazing help of a group on Discord which is just writers and authors! There is now a new version (linked in the original post) and I would love the feedback compared to the original!

You're doing a great job and it is awesome that you found a community of authors & writers to discuss with!
My main advice is to just keep writing. The finished books you see on a shelf had a first draft that was nowhere near the final product - speaking from experience. ;)
Don't stress too much about getting things right. As long as you have the bones of the story in place, you are good.
First drafts are always messy, a little crazy, and very flawed. But getting to the end lets you see your project in whole - the full course of character arcs, story lines, themes, etc. The things that need fixing, the bumps in the flow, the scenes that need rewritten, will jump out at you on the read-through.

For sure! Personally, I think if I can tweak the first few chapters to be good, then the rest of it will follow so I have a base to go by. Thank you! I'll definitely follow that advice! (EDIT: Side account)
