Lol another thing you can do is you can use a plant like pothos that can live with their roost fully in water and the betta can live amongst the roots if you suspend the plant above the tank with just the roots in the water

Ok so this is a genuine question for any parents on HEE - My mom said dinner's ready and I said what are we having. She said chicken, shrimp, and salad. I said what kind of salad and she started freaking out and telling me I'm rude and not supportive. Now here's the question - Is there a reason for this?

@Angels, since I want a house plant might as well do an aquarium plant. XD

I think a lot of people think keeping live aquarium plants is hard, but most of the common ones you find you don't have to do any extra things to care for them. Maybe take out any dead leaves when they have them but they live off of the waste from the fish

Bird, With fish tanks bigger is actually easier, it depends on the space you have available but with the nitrogen cycle bigger tanks are much easier to maintain water quality, smaller tanks are more likely to have something like an ammonia spike happen quicker. Big tanks are much more forgiving. I have a 500L which I upgraded from. 300L. Those are both too big for a betta though so don’t think you need that. 5-10g will be perfect

That is literally where they originate. It isn't spreading anything. They originate from thailand and asia and live in stagnant pools.

@Zz, I was thinking of a 5 gallon or maybe even 10 gallon, but I'm worried that might be too big.

I just wanna jump in to say the ‘live in puddles’ part is a harmful notion to be spreading, 2.5g is the absolute bare minimum, 5g is the ideal minimum

@Angels, can I get a photo of it? Did you cycle the tank with the live plants beforehand?

So I have to write a research essay. I've decided to write about eventing and the dangers of cross country. I need help finding academic articles about injury/fatality statistics, research on how to make it safer, what we're actually doing to make it safer, etc. If anyone could help me out it would be really great!!

COTH forums. Always a hot topic and plenty of existing threads. I'd encourage you to not make it a sensational danger kind of thing. Eventing needs support with the changing economy and formats and it's already under a lot of scrutiny. But I am in the camp that actual research and dollars need to be put forward for safety. No more stupid air vests. Get the exo funded. More statistics on dangerous jumps and WHY falls are happening at certain jumps. All that.

If you are at a university then I would imagine you have some sort of library catalogue that you can use to find journal articles that you can access for free?

If not, use google scholar. This is your best bet to find genuine, peer reviewed academic journal articles. Also, be wary of using forums as a means of finding your facts. They are going to be very subject to biased opinions so try to steer clear.

And whilst I agree with Interstellar, you should be careful of bringing your/other people's opinions into your argument. You need to keep a clear mind when writing your argument and should not be blind sided to one argument.

I totally support eventing. I believe that people should do more research on rotational falls and how to prevent them. In the long run air vests aren't really going to protect people. Something that is just done for fun for a lot of people shouldn't lead to so many injuries and deaths.

The school I'm going to is unfortunately really small. I found 4 articles in our library that would work, but I need more. I'll definitely try google scholar. Thanks for mentioning that. I'm also going to be bringing in opposing arguments so the essay isn't a one sided argument.

Thank you both!!

I never said to use the forum conversation in the research. But if you look up the threads plenty of people do link to actual articles and what little research their actually is. There aren't going to be many peer reviewed articles to pull up on this, because there aren't many.

The air vest research? They had an already inflated air vest where they dropped a 1,200lb horse dummy on top of it and found that it gives you a 16% better chance of not getting as hurt. You know, in the event that you're walking around with your air vest already inflated and a dead horse falls out of the sky on to you...
