Nice start, but your horses need to be way bigger. Maybe don't smudge the horse as much. Fix the lighting a bit. I see on one of the images you outlined the whole horse. Only outline a few sides of the horse where the sun is reflecting. Unless its really bright. Maybe fix the eyes a bit?
Other than that your onto a really nice start!

I use Ibis Paint X so, some pointers :P

Start out with a 500x500 blank piece. Choose your background to fit (you don't have to use the whole background, you can just make it bigger and use a certain piece)

Then, take your horse and import it into a totally new page. Work on it there, the colors, mane and tail, eyes, etc. Because you can see all the details that way.

When you get it how you like, make the background transparent and save as a PNG. Then import it onto your background picture, and play with the contrast/brightness until the horse looks like it belongs there, and don't forget the shadow!

Other pointers, make your horses a little bigger for the avatars so the background doesn't swallow the horse :3

I hope this helps!!

I agree with Crystal
Thats what I do as well
And you may need to add some color to the horse to make the lighting match but not to much

One thing I would say for sure is you need to practice with shadows and lights, best thing to do is make a new layer as a clipping mask on the horse and color in black where the shadows should be then you can blur and smudge them to fit in and mess with the opacity until it fits in

Its all about practice ;) also of course you know you can always pm me if you have questions

Oh another thing once you pick your BG or horse stock whichever first you want to find the other that will fit together, such as if you find a horse stock first you want to find a BG with the same camera angle somewhat of the same light source direction and most important make sure there is a space in the BG the horse can be put that looks natural, such as a trail etc. And vise versa if you find the BG first
