I have noticed that too. I have quite a few show mares and they keep up with the gelds well. But im a weirdo and took kind of 4 *different* tactics to showing, and combined them into one, and it has worked out incredibly well.
I don't put mine on CS either, just start training them as soon as I can and then they join the show force when the previous generation passes away. I also have several AD schoolmaster mares who aren't even EEE, so it is possible for them to level fast and make good money in their lifetime
If you have Dapple Blend Grain, you can feed it to your horse and their coat will dapple.
The effect will wear off after a few days. One pound of grain will be fed at a time.
If you feed Senior Blend to your senior horse they will have a 10% decreased chance in dying
when the weekly script runs on Monday morning. The effect lasts for one weekly cycle.

You can hire a rider. They will be automatically assigned to your horse. Be sure to visit the Rider's Lounge and pay them.
Set Breeding Requirements for your horse. Enter the minimum rating allowable for breeding. When breeding, Any combo of the entered values and higher will be accepted. Leave blank to set to None.
Edit your horse's remarks. Keep all content PG-13.
Choose a Background for your horse.
Withdraw your horse from it's team. You will lose all team points for this horse. Please discuss this action with the team manager first.
Your horse may show 3 times per week. Shows run daily. Your horse and rider will gain valuable experience from showing. Select a discipline to show in, or scratch from tonight's show.
Your horse has shown 3 times this week.
Enter Regular Shows again next week.
