I wouldn't be able to live feed. If I attempted it, the feeders would become my pets before they ever made it to the reptile lol |

@Ven, that would be fun! I have heard bearded dragons are very personable, but they aren't for me because I believe they are also messy. |

I just really enjoyed getting into the genetics of fancy mice. I bought from reputable breeders in a few states with really good stock, bred them up and culled what I didn't need. At one point I had over 120 mice when I did my first hard cull (adult and grow outs. I reduced litter sizes within 2 days of birth so litters were 4-6 per mom) That first massive cull killed me. Dispatching 40 mice at once is... it's hard on the heart. That's when I decided to lower my numbers until eventually I was at 14 adults, 3 males with their own females, culling all but the best babies, and then stopped completely. Was not easy at all. |

Possibly. We've been looking at milk snakes. But now things are leaning toward a bearded dragon |

@Ven, are you getting your son a pet snake soon? I thought you mentioned that at one point. |

I love fancy mice but after living in NYC and having a mouse infestation, I'm good with never having them around (alive) again |
Hummingbird Meadows |
@Dimmed, dang. I only have one snake too, but thankfully I have a reliable pet store to get frozen mice at. |
Embervale Acres |
it can be dangerous to feed live prey to snakes, even with mice. their bites are no joke |
Hummingbird Meadows |
@Athena, I also think feeding live isn't very ethical when it comes to pet snakes. |

I remember watching an exotic vet show and a lot of people brought in snakes that were injured from their prey fighting back. |
Irish Fields |
Because you risk them get bitten or scratched. Which can lead to infection, blindness, loss of scales etc. |
Astral Appies |
Obvioucly not a snake person. Why can't the snakes just take care of the dispatching themselves? WOuldn't it be easier? And more like how they eat in nature? |
Irish Fields |
Yeah I stopped purchasing frozen because the quality was horrible. So my husband and I have a pair of rats at the moment to get some babies from at least but we buy live from a local pet shop and my husband dispatches them before feeding |
Hummingbird Meadows |
@Dimmed, so you breed your own feeder mice? How many snakes do you have? |
Equity Falls |
Alby not really. I don't trust the frozen pet store ones and no local breeders within an hour of me. When we move I plan to breed again, I just need her to eat what I have. Ive got over 100 mice frozen |
