A huge thing is your reaction to it also...

We generally will crack the whip and then just get super excited and start throwing out treats, cheering and carrying on...soon they associate it with positivity and get excited about it.

Avoid things like "its okay" and petting them in a reassuring way..which sounds counter productive...but its all about body language. If you are happy and excited, they should feed off that...eventually

Athena - you could start out with 'poppers' and work your way up. That's what we've done.

Im crying right now. So IÂ’m currently sick with Covid in the guest room of my house and my spouse is running around my yard with a sparkler yelling “God has gifted me fire” just to make me laugh 😂

Freakin whole month of July is a firework fest in my state. We also celebrate our state founding on the July 24th which is just another reason for fireworks.

Eury has a point. Some animals are more sensitive than others too

Not to mention, there's plenty of people bothered by fireworks and it's pretty hard for them to be desensitized, despite understanding what's causing the noise

Because it's hard to desensitize to something that's completely random...And if it was easy to desensitize to thunder and fireworks, there wouldn't be a massive need for thunder buddy vests

I'm working on desensitizing Nova. She can now handle drums but fireworks, thunder and guns are still a problem

It happens two times a year so it's harder to keep up with the desensitization.

A few years ago, the neighbors set them off over the horses' stalls.
We've got dry acreage all around us - so on the ready for fires.

The constant boomers and screamers can't always be tolerated - it freaks me out too

My cat is chill as a cucumber right now despite the chaos outside. Dog is drugged and sleepy.

I had thought being a racehorse and having lived at a base he would have been fine. He wasn't. New year however, he was great for it.

Honestly the only time I ever had an issue with fireworks was when I hauled to an over night show on Canada Day. My one horse got a little hot headed but nothing major. Other then that I have never had a single issue with horses, cattle, or calves

I think drone shows are starting to become a thing instead of fireworks.

I know people who've desensitized their horses to loud noises, so why don't folks do the same for their other pets ?

The horses are doing really well. They're either eating with or watching the fireworks.

The only one freaking out is me.

Even the dog is being chill with the booms.

So many booms

I'm so glad that my boy is in at a private trainers this year far away from fireworks. Last year they made his sleeping ulcers wake up and it wasn't fun.
