I also love it from a biomechanical aspect because you can really see what your horse is doing. Evie started getting heavy in my hands during transitions so I've been starting our rides with in-hand trot-halt transitions to get her engaging her butt instead of leaning on the bit and it's been so helpful
@Puck, I don't know too much about him, but when I started taking lessons in groundwork the gal said she uses principles based on parelli so I can't complain since for me it worked. XD
I'm really grateful I grew up at a parelli barn. I don't like the guy or a lot of his theories, but it instilled a huge respect for groundwork so early on that even now I'm still surprised by people's lack of it
I did a ton of groundwork and basic flatwork with my boy. Im convinced he had anxiety issues cause of his past 🤣 I had to basically boost his self esteem before tackling any challenge
I used to really admire my most recent trainer while taking english lessons, but then she got mad at me for doing an emergency stop when my horse crow-hopped and I instantly lost a lot of respect and feeling of safety working with her.
Not saying that english riding is bad, but in my experience it has been all "show, show, show, whereas western has been more relaxed and listening to your horse and yourself.
I've noticed very few English people really focus on groundwork. A lot of cowboys don't either, but there's a bigger subset of natural horsemen in the western world than English
