It has drawn blood on 2 of my horses. I do not think it will learn its lesson. This is an ongoing problem. I blame the owner for not keeping it under control. It is a sad situation. But I cannot allow it to hurt my own animals.
In general though, once or twice with the mule teaches them to let the pasture alone.
ItÂ’s good for keeping the bad neighbors dogs away, but even one of them doesnÂ’t care about the mule. Dog thinks it is invincible. Luckily the neighbor has kept it put up lately - but it had gotten bad about chasing the other horses. Not cool. It wonÂ’t be invincible against a pew pew and that is what I told its ownerÂ….
My border collies are not allowed in the pastures unless I invite them. But this farm has fencing that the previous owners installed with a huge gap at the bottom, so it is easy for them to scoot under the fence if they choose to be bad dogs. I did have a mule foal kick a 3 month old pup that managed to go under one day while I was on the phone with a vet - and that pup managed to get herself kicked with a bruised lung and broken rib. She is 3 yrs old now and will still try to go under the fence at times - mostly just to eat manure, but sometimes because she thinks the horses need to be movedÂ…her herding instinct is strong, have to watch her closely if the horses are near the fenceline around the yard.
My foals and yearlings (and older horses too) are so used to dogs that they just stand there and look at them like they are insane furballs if they bark or lunge at them .
The only one phased is the bay mule, who will go after a dog in a heartbeat, if he is loose on his own in pasture. But that is what miles and donkeys do.
Rain: Yep, they are posting warnings for our area for the afternoon. Possible damaging storms. We really need the rain, just praying no damage like the tornadoes we had in April.

Choose a Background for your horse.
Withdraw your horse from it's team. You will lose all team points for this horse. Please discuss this action with the team manager first.
Your horse may show 3 times per week. Shows run daily. Your horse and rider will gain valuable experience from showing. Select a discipline to show in, or scratch from tonight's show.
Showing in the special weekly shows doesn't count against your horse's weekly regular show count.
