Basically they test the general obedience of a dog, the test has 3 parts. First part is the character check, basically how the dog acts when the microchip is checked, when you greet the judge and stuff, then there's the second part where your dog has to lay down for 10 minutes while you walk away and your test partner does the "test" such as heeling, sit, down, stuff like that. Checking if the dog still listens when there are people crossing and all that. Then you switch places and the other dog has to lay down while you do your test.
Tosk Yeah that'd be tough. The local ones don't require that, but the higher ones need at least a general obedience cert, otherwise it's not a requirement from the AKC
that's the requirement here to show / compete a dog Rain :/ My girl is super obedient but scared of strangers. She would never bark or bite, she only retreats, but the judges consider that a fail..
Tosk, Yeah she started so late because we went through two harder courses of obedience first. I'm trying to decide if we go all out and do the canine good citizenship
Ven, All I know is mom was a full GSD since she was in the shelter with her and her two siblings, so that mutt beagle mix was small and had the breeding rights cause she is only 30 lbs while mom was 60
Ah fair. Yeah here dogs have to pass an obedience test to be allowed to compete. And the only thing she fails at, is having her microchip checked by a stranger... She gets scared and retreats, which is considered a fail
