Well, thank you guys for giving me extra knowledge, I appreciate that. Perhaps I will use real plants in my next tank. All of my prior bettas lived for five plus years so I figured my care was already as best it could be. I guess I can improve lol

How do you take care of the guppies if they over produce though?

Goldfish are a pain in the ass, solely because of how much they shit

I'm a fan of guppies and neon tetras

I have found guppies, platys, and mollies to be really easy. They do reproduce pretty easily though lol. Goldfish are fairly easy but they are dirty and need bigger tanks.

So, in my experience, snails will take care of their own overpopulation. And if they don't, then assassin's will take care of them and then go dormant until they're needed again.

Versa - yep! I've used them to get rid of an infestation that came in on some live plants. I think they're pretty too

What beginner fish do you guys recommend other than bettas?

Depends on the plants I suppose. I just upgraded a 55 aquarium to a 135, and transferred an anubias that has been thriving for almost 5 years. Another tank has been heavily planted for over four and I will occassionally buy more plants to add, but only because I have an addiction, not becasue the plants are dying.

Prag,
I've never owned snails nor studied them so please excuse the silly question lol. Assassin snails just, "assassinate" other snails, correct? Safe for fishies?

snails, shrimp, and detritus worms are the tank cleanup crew

Versa - two words, assassin snails lol

Oh they're helpful? But the population, my childhood tank (that my parents owned) had them completely out of control, according to them. How does one work with that? I'm less against them if they're good

Charm,
Hmmm... I mean, I understand they're so beneficial. I guess my question comes down to, snail control. My heart is a little too soft to squish them. I'd seriously rather manually keep the water in check every night than squish them lol
