But actually though I have my old western eq saddle for $1200 and then my current english saddle for $800. So in theroy I could buy a decent saddle as my next saddle. But neither of mine will sell and they have been on the market for ages
Pip, part of the problem in my city is that land is limited for purely geographic reasons. The city is right on the coast with a bay that opens to a large, inland sea with two major connections to the open ocean, so it's absolutely ideal for boats. All the richest people have yachts and even working class people have sailboats. Fishing is a big deal here, too.
But then the land rises quickly to steep foothills, so the city is long and narrow. The foothills are too steep for horses. A major volcanic mountain range lies immediately east of the hills. The volcanoes are active, so there is a constant threat of lahars (a fast moving slurry of mud and any debris caught in the path, including trees, cars, entire houses, and anything else) along all the flatter river banks. The volcano doesn't need a full on magmatic or phreatic eruption to trigger a lahar, which makes them even scarier. So wise people DO NOT keep horses in that path. So, no more horse jobs for me. T_T
Most of the riding in my area is English. There are couple places that teach western but they are kind of far and I can't drive. And I don't think my parents would want to drive that far either.
I occasionally get to ride at my main job. But it's mostly just walking and a bit of trotting (these horses are old and don't trot much in lessons anyway). I'd love to get back to jumping or even try western.
All of my first jobs were working with horses. Then I moved to a town where that wasn't an option because no such opportunities existed. Well, that was the end of my horse world career. T_T
I guess that's why I play HEE instead. XD
Now I live in a coastal city with marinas. I might be able to find all kinds of work on boats and it's something I've considered, but there are no equestrian centers here.
