I mean, I used a whips are used a ton in liberty. My thought would be that maybe the horse had a bad memory with a whip and thought that she was going to do something worse than she did.
That is my thoughts too Belle. I personally do not just sit there and watch- I ask questions first to figure out what is going on, and then if it still does not sit right I let someone know. 4 years is a long time to let something sit.
Whips are so common, and it's normal to use them on the ground and on the horses legs (lightly) while teaching the piaffe. I'm wondering if the horse just had a bad reaction and she's taking the front for it. Again, very strange just DAYS before the Olympics for it to surface. I know for a fact if I was worried about how a horse was being treated I wouldn't be waiting that long. Of course everyone makes mistakes but still.
I mean hell I was hanging on Ravens mouth in a lesson the other day. I lost my stirrup along the rail and was starting to loose balance. I felt AWFUL when my trainer pointed it out to me. But my trainer said she could not tell from where she was standing that I was loosing balance. So just goes to show that you sometimes do not see everything. It was also 4 years ago too, so it is odd it resurfaced now. I applaud her attitude though.
I read that too, Belle. Some people see a whip and straight away assume its abuse. Whips are just an extension of the arm. Any equestrian who is heavily involved in riding, has bloody used one at some point. I have used them jumping, training, lunging etc
Apparently she was using a whip to get a horse stepping up in the piaffe and the horse flipped over. I just want to see the video (which is probably going to leak at some point) but it is common practice to use the whip on the ground while teaching with someone on top 🤔 obviously everything has to be taken with a pinch of salt as no one else has seen it.
I know people who have been to her many clinics, or whatever they are called. They are shocked this is just now surfacing, and want to see the video- at her clinics she preaches on treating the horse with respect, and maintaining welfare. No one is perfect 100% of the time. Not a single person. We have bad days and we have lapse in judgments. I personally want to see the video prior to making any kind of opinion on the matter.
If its a bad case of abuse then fair enough but I do doubt it is. I do know that sometimes a high status can get to peoples heads (not saying that is the case with her). Its so difficult to form an opinion on the situation, sometimes people can surprise you but also sometimes shit gets blown out of context and made sound worse than it is
