i don't want bears, cougars, or coyotes killing the animals in my neighborhood either. that's why i bring my animals in when i know they've been spotted, don't let cats out at night (or ever), and do my part to scare any that are getting too bold. i think if you put a huge herd of prey animals smack dab in the middle of a landscape where predators live, displacing the previous prey animals those predators used to hunt, then you can't be surprised when the predators hunt those prey animals.
I enjoy the point. That being said, I never kill them say, while IÂ’m out on a walk. I stick to eliminating the ones that come into my backyard. I have a privacy fence, a tall one, so they have to really want something to get in it. They are eliminated once in my backyard. I do not give them a chance, they are gone. To be fair, though, our problem is with our Game & Fish commission here, they are stupid worried about people keeping Axolotls and not worried about over hunting or relocating predatory animals to where they can be safely. They just do the same I do.
i'm not saying self-defense is wrong, i've had to throw rocks and chase coyotes away from my dogs. but, i don't hate coyotes for existing. the history of trying to eradicate predatory animals has been a long and misguided one that has done massive harm to entire ecosystems, and will negatively affect our water supply and food supply. the attitude of "kill all predators on my property" in the head of someone who owns 5,000 acres is why wolves went functionally extinct for a while in the US.
I ride what the horse does best in. My trainer always strives to make sure horse is comfortable with what they are in. Now, certain shows do require the usage of certain tack. So the horses that do those shows are trained to be able to use that stuff. But otherwise, everyone at home is in what they do best in
So I have asked where we are allowed to live. I personally live in town, not in the country. This town has been around for hundreds of years. Everywhere you live, no matter what you are going to run into animals. Whether they cause harm or not beats me. That being said, just like they have a right to attack me, I have a right to defend myself. I have small dogs, my neighbors have small children, who also reserve the right to be outside playing. So how do we handle a predatory animal coming into my neighborhood? We have no animal control that would do any different than I would.
Mullen mouth bits (especially soft ones) have worked nicely with a very reactive mare I have who is very small in the mouth, might be worth a try if you have access to one :)
trigger i don't want to have a debate in chat, but i think that line of thinking is very short-sighted. we have the ability to live almost anywhere on the planet, and to drastically change our way of life with technology. other animals can't. it's our responsibility to change, not their's.
