The grindy bit is exactly why it's a premium perk. It's an incentive to purchase premium. Same reason why mobile games all have the ability to buy 'ad free' for $4.99 or so
I mean, there was a discussion in chat the other day about the pay all riders feature being a premium feature and should not be included in non-premium because it simply takes time.
It wouldn't hurt the premium players to have to tack each individual horse up if that was their view :)
