@Eps, lol. When I go out in public a lot of people will point to my dog's e-collar and ask if that is a tracker. I say no, it is an e-collar and they are so confused. I then explain it is a shock collar, but I prefer the term shoulder tapper, because that is how I use it.
@Celeste, I'm glad you can do what's best for your dog. I am pretty sure we have spent close to $2000 if not more on training my dog. He was not an easy puppy and we even thought of rehoming him. He still can be difficult, but we make it work.
Oh he was not just yelping. He was shaking and panicking. I will not put my dog through that again. I found another way. I am not against E-Collars, u have seen them do beautiful things, just in my experience it was not the right thing for me. Jupiter listens, all I have to do is call his name. He can be off leash and will stay next to me. I spent over 1k training him. But it was totally worth it.
@Celeste, I usually will stim him when he gets excited and he calms down by sitting or even looking at me I will treat him. I tried using an e-collar by myself, but it didn't go well. We had our trainer help us and now he is great with it. Occasionally, he will ignore it though and so of course I turn it up and then he may yelp. He know's the response though, he just likes to ignore it sometimes.
But I definitely know several dogs who benefit from E-Collars. Several of my former fosters have benefitted from them. I just do not know enough to give advice on how to use it in that situation.
Jupiter had a lot of energy. A lot. And he tackled people he was so excited to see them. The first trainer I used tried it once and it flipped him out. So I went the more positive reinforcement route and it has done wonders for him. Completely different dog haha.
@Celeste, my dog gets excited when I get out his e-collar because it usually means we are going out. It has been a life saver since my dog gets so excited and worked up.
