We got him home, it was about 2:00 a.m. and put him in the stall. I went to get hay to give him and when I walked to the stall door he was at the front of the stall drinking water. He saw me approach, and I was still several feet away from the door, he leaped to the back wall, hitting the wall, and stood back there looking scared to death. He NEVER did anything like that before. He always met us at the stall door with his dorky mule nicker.
Took about 3 weeks, but he is his old self in the stall again.
He has some nervous issues when leading him that he never had before, but they are mostly all gone too.
My horse was previously abused, I was one of the first people in his life who didn't just hit him back when he did something because he was afraid, and because of that he's learned to trust me and doesn't act out anymore. He's still rude to other people but I can't do much for them
I may lease baby eventually. I have a few to try till their current leases end in October. Then I can get to work practicing for when I show a bit more next year.
Oh, she definitely needs TLC. But I've seen a definitely improvement with her in the month I've been working with her. Hilarious since we've had her for three or so years now...But no one really worked with her besides the basics
I have purchased many a horse I considered a "rescue." If they needed TLC or had suffered abuse of any sort, in my mind they are still a rescue.
Hell, getting Buckeye back, he can now be considered a rescue. He definitely suffered some sort of abuse while that witch had him. Good news is he came out of it fairly quickly. His showed up in the stall as soon as we got him home again. Poor dude
Yup. Most of her "bad" behavior is seeing what she's allowed to do and how the person will react if she's naughty. Once she realizes she won't be allowed to do something, she might try it once or twice again and stop.
