@Celeste, I usually will stim him when he gets excited and he calms down by sitting or even looking at me I will treat him. I tried using an e-collar by myself, but it didn't go well. We had our trainer help us and now he is great with it. Occasionally, he will ignore it though and so of course I turn it up and then he may yelp. He know's the response though, he just likes to ignore it sometimes.
But I definitely know several dogs who benefit from E-Collars. Several of my former fosters have benefitted from them. I just do not know enough to give advice on how to use it in that situation.
Jupiter had a lot of energy. A lot. And he tackled people he was so excited to see them. The first trainer I used tried it once and it flipped him out. So I went the more positive reinforcement route and it has done wonders for him. Completely different dog haha.
@Celeste, my dog gets excited when I get out his e-collar because it usually means we are going out. It has been a life saver since my dog gets so excited and worked up.
I have so many gates lol. Keeps my dogs in / out of places I want them / do not want them. It is so useful. I have no idea how to use an E-Collar as I am not versed on those. My senior had a panic attack and flipped out when we tried it so I went a different route with his training.
hummer, give him one of her blankets, do not introduce them when his is on a leash as that will just frustrate him, let the cat come out, and let him sniff around, if he tries to go after her, give his e-collar a buzz or a stim.
@Celeste, I like the idea of a gate, but we don't have one. I'm sure we could improvise though. My house is a split level so it would have to be something that blocks the stairs anyways.
Do introductions slowly. Let them sniff under the door and such first then graduate to sniffing and getting used to each other through a gate. And go at their pace- do not rush it.
Ally, oh really?? our youngest cat tries to kill everyone in my family at least 10 times a day, so that is 40 murder attemps in a day! the most dangerous thing was week ago when he knock over a stack of boards that was leaning against the wall, on top of my father
