Interestingly is also the person I know with the highest debt lol. She graduated with around 150,000

Yeah I went to a state college for engineering, paid in state. Of my friend group, we averages about 50 or 60 thousand between us, and the first of us is about to finish paying them off next year because they've been living with their mom for the last 6 years so saved more on rent than the rest of us

And scholarships for doctorate level are pretty much limited to the people who've learned the secret to time travel and are able to someone maintain a 4.0 GPA while also being in 50 different clubs and spent their entire undergrad saving puppies/kissing babies

I went the community college > doctorate route. Still ended up with a shitton of student loans because it was like 11k per semester lol

But community college is cheaper, what about that? Statistical average seems to be between 18,000 and 20,000 for room and board and tuition for a year. Best option there is to forgo the room and board and hey! You're down to 4,000 a year! That's great, and I almost always point young people to this option if they can or are interested in the degrees they provide, but they are limited and give mostly associates, which average at $46,000 a year. Nothing to complain about until you look at the average cost of living in the US which is 60,000...

Scholarships don't grow on trees. I applied for countless scholarships all through my undergrad and I got one. It paid $500 per semester.

Right, so either get scholarships, or choose a cheaper school/degree. or get a part time job. You are right, it is just math - and if you are ending up close to the 100k range - I know I'd for sure be making some different decisions.

And if someone isn't on their parents insurance, they have to purchase insurance, which can get wildly expensive if you don't want one of the shit plans

Yeah, when I was on campus, yearly rent was 9.6K, alone

Except tuition averages at $11,000 a year, multiply that by 4 (assuming it didn't go up) your at 44,000. Not bad right? But then factor in room and board, food cost, books, and other dues, your looking at an additional 15,000 a year. This isn't even including private colleges. That'll get you to 60,000 in this alone, making it easily over 100,000 without financial help

People have life events that prevent them from finishing school...And there's more than a few undergrad schools that'll rack up high student loans without a doctorate/law degree

Hm, in general, I agree with student loan forgiveness. But if you leave college with more than 100k student loans and no doctorate or law degree that is kind of on you.

Student loans in general is just a broken system, and a lot of people don't understand why unless youcurrently have them in the us. Which sucks cause the loudest people against forgiveness only had like $5,000 of them compared to the hundreds of thousands you could get today
The Old Gods

'cause at that point, they'd actually have a chance of getting the money back. As it stands now, I'm just going to pay the IRS a large lump sum in about 10-15 years when everything gets forgiven because it'll be cheaper than paying back everything in the long run
The Old Gods

Exactly why there shouldn't be interest lmao
