Corporations are not there to lose money, and they have way too much, are wasteful, and yes, the executives are disproportionately paid. Hence why I shop elsewhere
Major companies aren't your friends. When the *only* thing you care about is making money, that's detrimental to your business. Good example right now that I've been involved with is Apex Legends, a very large first person shooter game. They started making stupid decisions with their monetization thinking they'd make tons of money and they got review bombed so badly that they reversed the changes before they even had a chance to implement them
Plenty of companies here are not showing record profits, simply because they do have to pay workers more to get good ones, plus their own costs for other things are skyrocketing. They are actually posting smaller gains just to stay in business. This is why I support smaller companies and not huge ones.
Amazon? Not thanks. Walmart? No thanks. Kroger? Forget it.
I live in very small town, surrounded by other small towns, surrounded by only smallish cities.
There is a huge need for workers who will actually show up and work their shifts and do a decent job. Jobs are paying $15-20 / hour easily., and upwards. Food servers make good money here, if they show up and treat their customers well.
Many non-college grads are making more than college grads, because they don't mind to actually work, show up when they are supposed to, and stay their entire day whatever they are scheduled for.
I get that workers want more money. The company's do too. So, the company's have to charge more money for their goods to pay the employees. Then the consumer of those goods, bitches that the prices are too high. It's a vicious circle.
Higher wages will also equal higher costs when we go to stores, or restaurants, or wherever. Simple economics.
The current problem is that inflation is soaring faster than wages, and that can be blamed on wasteful government spending, and also on losing our energy independence, creating higher fuel prices = higher prices on everything, as most consumer end products must be shipped, or require parts/ingredients to be shipped, somoften multiple shipping costs involved before consumers ever see the product.
Living in a state with $10 minimum wage, the only way for me to stay afloat if I lived alone would be to make at least $20. I'm struggling to find something full time above 14 that isn't so far away I'm wasting too much money on gas. It's just frustrating and shitty.
