Hey all! I'm looking into making art for my horses and things on here but I have no idea how to get started! Can you guys give me your secrets and tips on how to get at least decent? I've done some but it was a LONG time ago... So, what apps/programs do you use? (And how? haha!) and really, I'll take anything you have to say!!
Thank you!! <3

Most artists on HEE use GIMP and Photoshop. I started off with greyscales! Eventually worked my way into manipulations. Starting out: http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b548/alissaskinner28/he_zpsc3967405.jpg Current: https://i.imgur.com/PfwCcQE.jpg
Greyscales are a good way to get practice with recoloring and not having to worry about doing hair right off the bat lol. GIMP is free, Photoshop isn't, but GIMP is an awesome program! Used it for a few years before caving and buying PS. My only tip is practice, practice, practice. :P

I am using both Pixlr (online and Gimp (offline) I simply cut my horses from the BG's in Pixlr, Smudge, then in Gimp I do the tails, and re-colors.
Tips- Zoom in while cutting an object out. Use small hard brushes while cutting. Never give up. Practice, Practice, and more Practice as TC said!

aswell as that i can provide tutorials
-cut horse with hard brush - blur the horses coat with an opacity brush between 30 and 50 -use smudge on full opacity and low size for the hir an also use pen to add extras

I use GIMP, used to use pixlr, and don't regret the change. If you need specific help with GIMP, shoot me a PM but here's some stuff When you smudge, do it with a low-rate, soft, low-opacity brush for best looking results. I cut the horse's tail flyaways off when I cut him out, then just smudge it out until it looks good again. Cut the horse out with the hardest brush available Adjust the lighting of the horse and BG until they fit each other- use the Hue-Saturation option for this. Make sure your credits are readable size/color/font. I would definitely recommend getting GIMP it works great (I don't have a tablet, just a computer and it still works great) <3
