Ello!
I've been doing art for quite a few years on HEE, but I feel like my art should be improved more than it is, so I'm asking for some critique on my art! I'm not asking "what can I do to make my art look more like [insert name]'s art", I'm just asking what can I do to improve and make my art look better! Even if you think that everything is perfect except for how I (example) drew the mane or shaded the hooves, then let me know! Or if you think the whole thing is terrible, then please let me know, and suggest ways (or tips if you know any) which I can improve!
All humbleness aside, I'm not too bad of an artist on HEE, but I'd like to be doing sooo much better than what I'm doing now.
I'm going to somewhat make this into a project. Every month, at the end of the month, I'll post a few images on this page which I made the previous month. Then I'll try to apply some of the tips and critique to pieces I make the next month and repeat the cycle. By, let's say.... July of 2019, I'd like to see that I've improved a TON!
I'll also be hosting free art giveaways through this page and possibly offer discounts in my art shop to anyone who gives helpful critique!
Here's some info about my art experience on HEE:
- I started doing art around yr65 (I joined yr61) by coloring linearts. (If I get enough requests, I'll see if I can find a link to the first lineart I colored xD )
- I started doing manips maybe 6 months after that
- I do ALL of my art on PaintToolSAI, a downloadable drawing program. SAI was specifically made for graphic design/drawing, not photomanipulation, so it took me a few years to figure out how to effectively use it for making manips
- Around December 2016 is when I finally "figured out" how to effectively make manips using SAI
-It has now been almost 2 years since then, and though I have definitely improved, I feel that I should be quite a bit more improved
Please note that because I use PaintToolSAI, not Photoshop or GIMP (gimp doesn't work on my laptop for some reason) I do not have access to all the PS/GIMP settings or brushes.
So, because I'm asking for Critique, I'd like to set a few rules, just so there are no hard feelings being passed around. Remeber; everyone may have different opinions or prefer different styles :)
1. Don't be rude
-please don't insult my art or just say that it looks bad. If you do think it looks bad, then please elaborate and tell me why or what I can do to fix it!
-don't tell people that their tips are bad or get into arguments. I would like everyone to be able to have a say without being afraid they'll be harassed for saying it. :)
2. Elaborate/ Don't be Vague
-if you dislike something about a piece or think I could have done something differently, then please say so! But then please elaborate and give me tips or ways which you think I could improve.
-or if you like something that I did on a piece, then please say so! Not all critique has to be negative!
3. You Don't Have to Critique Every Image
-you certainly can if you'd like, but you don't have to critique every image
-If you want, you can also go through my DA and link+critique some of the pieces which I have not posted
That's it! Thank you all sooooooooooooo much for the help!
Stuff to Improve upon for this month based on critique:
-Look for less "awkward" stock that matches the BG better
-Manes and Tails (lol this one is probably gonna be here for a few months)
-positioning and size of horses compared to their BGs
-applying just enough contrast and shading to the horse/ grounding horse
-fixed light source
