Hey guys and welcome!
This thread is a place to request an art critique from some of your peers. A few other artists and myself thought we would designate a place to offer our opinions on your pieces.
We will go over what we think you did great on, as well as what we think you need to improve or focus on.
The following lovely artists will be this threads critiquers: - Jello - Manduh - Trig - Libby - Charm - Hemlock - Timbie - Keo - Foxtail Elites
Before we move on: Lib has compromised a helpful list of things to look out for! https://horseeden.com/forums.php?f=17&t=14436
I ask that if you are not on this list to please refrain from critiquing in this thread. If you would like to potentially be added to the list, feel free to shoot me a PM.
You are not guaranteed a critique from more than one artist, but atleast one person will respond.
RULES: - Please only post one piece at a time - Please only post 1 piece per every 2 weeks. - Please do not bug for an immediate answer - We are going to offer HONEST opinions, as politely but directly as possible. These are OPINIONS. Please do not argue or get upset. :) - Please do not offer critiques on other peoples pieces.
We will be offering our honest opinions, but we are not here to put anyone down. We will give explanations or reasoning for opinions and will present them in a constructive way. This is a place to get good advice from notable artists.
If you've read all that, than feel free to enter the gauntlet. We dont bite... I promise.
**NOTICE! You are more than welcome to have multiple pieces critiqued, but please try to space them out multiple days apart so the critiquers do not get overwhelmed. Thank you! ****

This is pretty RavenHale. The horse is a tad bright for the background. Also the legs are a smidge out of focus - adding some highlights on those can help like it did on the face. Remember a horse will have a shadow, even on water! The mane and tail have nice shapes, but it seems you may need to smudge/draw with a smaller brush to keep it from getting too chunky. I love the style of a blurred background with a moving horse. Good job!

Just would like an overall critical assessment of my art... Go easy please, I'm super stressed right now, and recovering from a bad artists block.
Please include tips on how to fix the problem.

Thanks for doing this ;) I was pretty proud of this piece, although one thing I wasn't to thrilled about was the back hoof. Not sure how it got to look that weird lol!

Hey Jess! :D
Well, you've really come a long way and i've seen some really great improvement. Your horse prep is looking pretty spot on, and you're really starting to get a good grasp on lighting.
I do notice you seem to lose alot of muscle definition and overall clarity of the horse. It happens to everyone during the prep process. The best way to correct this is to sharpen your horse after the prep process, and the draw/smudge small high and low lights onto the animal to add definition.
I really want to commend you for learning to draw manes and tails. Its no easy task and something i struggled with for a long time. I would like to eventually see a bit of movement in your strands though. Curretly, they are rather straight, and that's fine, but hair is not always straight. I would study up on the natural movement of hair and slowly try and mimic it. There are some great tutorials on youtube for this. :D
I've really enjoyed seeing you progress in your art adventures. Keep it up!

This looks great Rosie! I love how you merged two backgrounds together I never attempted that until just very recently. I do see a bit of a blur line where they meet, which is the most difficult part for me. I have found that if I blur the whole background it masks ti though. :D
The lighting is super, but the horse could use a shadow to make it look like it belongs int he background. :) To help the hoof, you could get some handy grass brushes to use.
I also am really impressed with the hair! You might play with adding highlights and low lights to give it more definition next time, but the body if it is looking good. :D
