Hello again! I added an updated version that should hopefully give a better idea of what I'm trying to sell. I also included the ref and the particular horse I'm painting. I edited my questions as well ~

Hello! Thinking about actually doing custom art ~ I'd like to do very loose, sketchy portraits! (HEE horses only, sorry!) Each one will be fully custom bust or head-shots. Additional framing and stuff can be done, but for now I just have a WIP. * * Please do not PM me about commissions. If you want to be put on a waitlist for these portraits though, let me know! * I may decide to back out of customs or only do one or two * These may take a month or two to finish, especially if multiple slots are open. It really depends on how well life/mental issues are going though. * ^ Updated version uploaded ^ (sorry if the image is a bit weird. I draw on paper and then take a picture, and in this case, paint over it in Krita. The latest version also shows the reference and the particular horse this is a portrait for. * Initially, I wanted to do PWYW but then I have no idea what tier to put these in. I'm also not sure I currently have enough finished for anyone to really have a price in mind anyway, but I thought I'd put out feelers now. Quite a few people mentioned paying around 500k for (I assume) custom full-bodies in my grayscale/realism style. I'm thinking I'll still do PWYW with a $250k-300k min. For this particular piece, the somewhat difficult posing would want me to price it closer to $400k. Are we allowed to trade horses for art? * So until I finish this particular piece, I'd like to know just for now: * Do you think $400k is an okay price considering the pose? (Personally, if she was in a simpler pose I would've priced it much closer to $300k. Her lack of markings and color helped too.) * Do you prefer PWYW or fixed (but negotiable) prices? * Would you be okay with a 1-2 month wait? Longer? * As far as loose/sketchy painting goes, do you think the amount of detail is good or should there be more? (should be noted that eyelashes and whiskers will be added before completion!) * Speaking of whiskers, would you prefer the painted horses to be clipped, sleek, and otherwise all aorund neat? (sorry if it's a weird question, I'm not in a horse centric place but I've seen tons of pictures of I assume fully clipped show horses with no whiskers and thought I'd ask! My style can be fairly messy fyi) Edited at January 17, 2022 06:23 AM by Glacier Valley

I would prefer a head-shot/bust type piece so further than but maybe including the shoulder. .. It honestly depends on whose ordering or wanting art. I have no preference, for me, its whatever the artist loves to do. .. I love the amount of detail you have put in already! <3 I personally think its perfect! .. No, I like it when horses are left to be horses. Messy and all. <3 plus, whiskers are cute. XD .. And, if you have a waitlist, may I be added? For a bust.

Would you generally prefer full-bodies over busts and head-shots? Busts seem to be the most popular, and are my personal favorite * Are lined works preferred over painterly ones? Depends, I would stick with your unique style * As far as loose/sketchy painting goes, do you think the amount of detail is good or should there be more? (should be noted that eyelashes and whiskers will be added before completion!) It's definitely good, the horse is nicely defined * Speaking of whiskers, would you prefer the painted horses to be clipped, sleek, and otherwise all aorund neat? (sorry if it's a weird question, I'm not in a horse centric place but I've seen tons of pictures of I assume fully clipped show horses with no whiskers and thought I'd ask! My style can be fairly messy) Depends, if it is a show looking horse (wearing a fancy bridle, or a fancily braided mane), maybe, but otherwise normal is good Also, definitely open a shop, you would have tons of orders, Tier 1, 250k+, good luck!

Thank you as well! I'm curious about pricing on pieces like this, but didn't think anyone could give a good enough guess with how little of the piece is actually done. Also wanted to do more of an PWYW but wasn't sure what tier that would put me as they seem to be based on both artist skill and how much the artist sells for

What is PWYW, and you are 100 percent Tier 1, no questions, no arguments

I think you should "be safe" and make a low end of the PWYW. This should be a price where, if you received anything less you would feel like your time was wasted. So you could practically say something like: "Pay what you want but keep offers above 200k+" Agreed on the Tier 1, as your low end of the PWYW should definitely put you into the Tier 1 range by default. The quality of your art and the work behind it is surely, objectively worth far more than just 100k *Edit: I realized I answered only one question of yours xD Do you think $400k is an okay price considering the pose? 100% okay price. Do you prefer PWYW or fixed (but negotiable) prices? Here I think your preference counts more than your customers'. You will definitely have orders lined up no matter which pricing you choose, so you should go with what makes you comfortable. The HEE community is amazing so I don't think anyone would want to lowball you even if you go for a full on PWYW. As far as loose/sketchy painting goes, do you think the amount of detail is good or should there be more? The current amount of detail is already awesome, and could net you your target 400k well. If you feel like you want to add more details, go for it. Art is to be enjoyed, after all. Speaking of whiskers, would you prefer the painted horses to be clipped, sleek, and otherwise all aorund neat? I think this is more of a personal preference and may change from request to request. Oh and I'd love to be on that waiting list too :3 Edited at January 19, 2022 06:06 AM by HRS

Thank you so much for your help! I'm still dealing with general anxiety on selling art, and HEE artists seem to have a specific style usually, I feel pretty "different" to these other artists so still a bit finnicky on how things work here with art. I think once I get this piece finished and others done as well, I'll do two little trial customs for you, HRS, and Tranquility ~ and if those go well, art shop!

Glacier, its your art and your style, I know its hard not to compare yourself to other artists, but you should embrace your style becuase it is absolutely lovely! No, it may not be for everybody, but if they dont like your "style" then they can go somewhere else! If you enjoy art and how you do it, then keep on, its your style! <3<3 I honestly cannot wait for that open slot. XD
