But it is a gene which is not present in the Icelantic horse population. So for it to appear on a purebred icelantic horse who's parents are both solid colored is pretty fantastic! And supposedly he has had a DNA test confirming both of his parents to be solid colored Icelantics.
So you are right, it is not a new discovery, but it is new and extremely rare amung icelantic horses, with the only ones who currently possess the gene being the stallion who got the gene and his offspring. Edited at December 8, 2018 08:07 AM by ~Skye Acres~

Yes, I'm aware that W21 is a new mutation starting with this stallion. My point is that it was first reported a while ago.

The article is from November 28th... Sorry if not everyone keeps up with every single article posted about horses every day. It's new to me. I've never heard of it before either. I think it's cool!

Yeah the article is recent. But as the article says, W21 was first reported in 2015 :)

I just read that article!! So cool how it just randomly mutated in the Icelandic population. And it's cool that he can pass it on to, so there will hopefully be more in the future!!!
