Okay, so I've just bought my first horse and he's perfect in every way but his previous owners cut his tail and its very short. When I say short its about 6" above his hock, any tips or tricks to get it to grow?

Congrats on your new friend! Unfortunately, time is really the only way to grow a tail out. Good nutrition will help, but not much else.

My horse had a gorgeous, full tail. Then they turned him out with a yearling who prompty ate his tail :)))))) It took a long time to grow back in, but I did use MTG on it a few times a week and I think that helped.
Congrats on the new horse!

Thank you! I've used M-T-G before and it works wonders but I hate the smell and how oily it is.

I used MTG when my horse rubbed out his mane out and it seemed to work, I've also heard good things about Biomane, but overall time is the main thing that makes a mane or tail grow :) Congrats on your new horse by the way!!! Edited at April 27, 2020 08:08 PM by Hallucination Manor

Time and mine that someone chopped his tail off grew back faster after we put him on a hoof supplement. the other ripped out a 1/3 of his tail after a horse show it's finally back to full length now 3 years later. A loose-ish tailbag may help protect from damage as well.

You can get MTG that is sulphur free I believe, if the smell really gets you! I've also had a lot of luck with fat supplements and hoof supplements in giving my horses higher quality manes, tails, and coats. I've never given a supplement specifically for mane and tail growth, but they do exist and wouldn't hurt (depends on how much you want to spend on supplements...) Of course, time will ultimately be what you need.

MTG works amazing to help nourish and grow the mane/tail! I've used it countless times because my horses mane and tail, get super dry. But it is also great for growing back hair.
