I have a horse show tomorrow, and I'm nervous. Very nervous. I've been to a ton of shows before, but this show is for points. Ive showed at Maclay, Pony Finals, etc in the past, but for some reason, im the most nervous for this show. I dont know why lol. I am showing 4 horses, 1 tommorow in jumpers, 2 Saturday and 1 Sunday in hunter/eq classes. 2 of them have never been to a show before. I haven't been able to make myself eat, I've been so nervous. I guess it feels like I'm going to let everyone down if I don't earn enough points to qualify for the end of year show. Any tips on how to handle the nerves?

Stop thinking about the points. Tell yourself, it's all just for fun. You get tense, the horses will feel it and get tense too, which will adversly effect their preformance. By being so nervious, you are setting yourself up for failure. Relax, it's just another day.

Thank you :) It's just hard when everyone around you is telling you you had better win lol.

At the end of the day, you have to remember that they're animals, and aren't going to be perfect for us every ride, even though we'd of course like them to be. Horse show nerves never go away in my opinion. I completely get how you feel, the team I show with has a high reputation, which makes me feel pressured to place well too. Nothing is ever guaranteed with horses as i'm sure we all know, you could go out there and feel like you're having a terrible ride, but in reality you're usually just be being too hard on yourself. Most of the classes I've won I went out of the ring with 0 confidence because of how bad I thought my round had went. At the end of the day we just have to remember we do this because we love it. I also know how important points are, and I've learned to just ignore them. If I go out there and get some, thays great! But if not, oh well, I tried. You just can't beat yourself up about it. :) I'm sure you'll kill it whenever your show is though! And for the people pressuring you to place high, just ignore. Go out there and give it your best ride, not with the "I need to win this" mindset! Hopefully this somewhat helps, I still have to constantly remind myself about these things🤷♀️

Update: I just got to the show, and its crazy. Classes are running late, and everyone is stressed. There are 36 people in my class for today >.< All the horses traveled well, so that's good at least. The course is extremely hard, so I'm really nervous for that.

Good luck! Just open your mind to learning opportunities, and helping your horse have a good experience. If you focus on being positive, then positive things will come. You can't focus on winning, because you can't control how well or how badly everybody else does.
