What is everyone's favorite helmets under $200? I don't love my helmet I have currently, it's just a random Ovation brand helmet and is weirdly squared at the top. It does it's job but is really just for schooling and not nice enough to show in. Looking for something that's just plain black and looks decent in the HUS ring. Any suggestions? - This one looks nice but I honestly don't know very much about helmets lol. Edited at November 11, 2023 07:02 PM by DaisyMeadowEventing

I quite often see nice helmets for sale brand new on FB. I've bought a couple OneK off of there for about $100-150 and recently even found one for $50 (no it wasn't a scam haha). Definitely worth a shot. I LOVE OneK and Tipperary

I'll take a look, thanks! Edit: I think I found a OneK helmet that I really like on Stateline tack. Edited at November 12, 2023 07:54 AM by DaisyMeadowEventing

I have a One K, I think it was more like 250 but its amazing! fits like a glove, especially since I've got an "oval" head and they have that option

I ride western (dabbled in hunter in the past) and always have worn Troxels, they've really improved the design in recent years and made it so much more comfy and streamlined. They also have a velvet outer design (I forget the price, I've only looked at them lol never gotten one) and ofc there's covers for the regular hardshell ones.

adding this bc I googled haha: You can get a Troxel Capriole (velvet exterior) for about $65 brand new, if it was me I'd be wary of buying secondhand helmets. Even minor impacts can damage/compress the foam inside the shell which is what absorbs impacts and will make it way less effective the next time it's impacted. All Troxel stuff is ASTM/SEI certified and it's one of the more widely used brands. They also (last time I checked) have a lifetime warranty where if you have an impact event you can send the helmet in and get a new one free.

I too ride mainly ride western, but my Arab is a hunter. I'll take a look at them, I don't love the look of velvet just because I have to school in it also, but I'm not against it. And I do agree about buying used, I don't want to just happen to get a damaged helmet and have an accident in a defective helmet. Thank you for your advice <3

I just realized the helmet you have linked that you like is the exact one I use for schooling at home! (Only bc it's old and got bumped down when I purchased a OneK). It's a fantastic helmet, I absolutely love it. The fit is great, my head doesn't get too hot (even in brutal TX summers) and it's very pretty. I highly recommend it!
