We just do what works best 🤷‍♀️ kinda expensive for me to pay the full hauling fee across the state to the night shows. With other people going I only pay 80, for both the haul and coaching at show.
For the dressage shows we may attempt doing, I am paying 100 base fee for hauling and coaching and then it will go up based on how far the show is. But it will just be and my instructor showing.
I can do that for dressage shows and maybe a night show or two. But for every show? That would add up. So I go with my stable more than just on my own.

Riding in the evening works fine for me. Eliminates the factor of direct hot sun.
Again, with attention to fitness levels and conditioning , no problems.
*shrugs*
Been doing summers from age 10-63 and never had a heat related issue.
I pay very close attention to my horsesÂ’ vital signs, and students always learn the same.

Well, parents at shows here are fine with late nights. Most smaller local shows here start at 6 pm and go well into the night.
Lots of gaited horse shows, full of kids.

I only go to them because my son in law helps his mom and aunt at them. Not my type of show, but when free we go hang out and enjoy the evening.
But the kids are there all night too.

Guess it is just different strokes for different folks and areas.

Sure itÂ’s hot. Have yet to witness anyone or a horse actually collapse.

My only thing with heat is my blood sugar STRUGGLES to regulate. I have to check hourly while doing work in the heat and take breaks as it does a jump rope situation then back to work

Heat is harder for me - getting old.
But chores still have to be done tooÂ…regardless of heat. So itÂ’s a matter of chugging forward when the work has to be done.
The 90* heat came just in time for makingnhay last week.
Now THAT was brutal, right after mornings of 48-50* and daytime highs of 75-78.
We didnÂ’t get a gradual increase lolz

Yeaaah. Riding in the evening doesn't work because the heat index will stay up in the hundreds well after dark. Can go outside and still feel the heat radiating up from the ground

Our barn has a covered arena situation. We do slow down on workouts in June-July.

Yeah parents are not like that anymore. They complain if the show runs 1 minute past 8 I learned at my first one. I did not understand it one bit, school is out for them, it is not for me. I stayed 12 flipping hours at the show and showed in 2 classes. Not a complaint from me

110+ heat indexes do require special management. Ride super early, ride later in evening.
Just a matter of what one is trying to accomplish.

For us, summer did mean a bit easier workouts, as the eventing comps died down until fall. But we had PC Champs, and other sorts of shows to do as well. So maintaining fitness is importsnt.
