We have cougars nearby in mountains. IÂ’m tired of seeing people complain about them when they Literally keep building their houses further and further into the mountains.
My friend and I were attacked by a coyote on our last trail ride. Unfortunately I had to shoot it to protect us and our horses. She later told me that sometimes she lets coyotes follow her when she is out solo and we had to have a big talk about why it is not some cute Snow White moment when that happens.
thankfully any attempt at driving the coyote to extinction has epically failed. they just have bigger litter sizes, and breed more often. if we didn't have coyotes, we'd have feral dog packs instead. that's actually what we had in US cities before the huge feral dog extermination in i believe the late 1800s. i really enjoyed the book "coyote america" by dan flores, and "rabid" by monica murphy on these subjects.
And I mean, my neighborhood has not had the coyote issue until fairly recently. Used too we would see one or two and admire them- now it is almost every night I see a couple. And they are huge as fuck too.
I keep snakes around, I keep spiders around, the coyotes have just absolutely wrecked my flowers and killed my neighbors animals. If I had the option to relocate them I would.
i don't want bears, cougars, or coyotes killing the animals in my neighborhood either. that's why i bring my animals in when i know they've been spotted, don't let cats out at night (or ever), and do my part to scare any that are getting too bold. i think if you put a huge herd of prey animals smack dab in the middle of a landscape where predators live, displacing the previous prey animals those predators used to hunt, then you can't be surprised when the predators hunt those prey animals.
I enjoy the point. That being said, I never kill them say, while IÂ’m out on a walk. I stick to eliminating the ones that come into my backyard. I have a privacy fence, a tall one, so they have to really want something to get in it. They are eliminated once in my backyard. I do not give them a chance, they are gone. To be fair, though, our problem is with our Game & Fish commission here, they are stupid worried about people keeping Axolotls and not worried about over hunting or relocating predatory animals to where they can be safely. They just do the same I do.
